8mm film of my dads 1971 442 W-30 he got new
This was shortly after my dad got his new 1971 442 W-30 and then pictures of it a few years later. Then a picture of it after we tracked it down when I was roughly 14 years old.

Note the blurb "Subject to Strike" for the delivered on or about line. The BIG strike of 1970. Which in full swing on 10/05/1970. It was burned into my brain that it started the second week of September, 1970 right after school started and went for something like almost 10 weeks. As a GM family, we suffered through that one, seemed like it would never end. I was 10 years old at the time and wow, talk about having to brown bag it for school lunches. It's sad to see the end of that W-30, but it's also very cool to see them once again out in the wild. The video reminds me of the time AFTER the strike ended my dad test drove a 71 non-W 442 4-speed, but ended up with a slightly used 69 Cutlass S 350/auto.
Neat retro-trip. Thanks for sharing.

I asked him about that yesterday. He said he left it in the window for 2 to 3 weeks before he got around to taking it out. He said he saved it for a long time and over the years lost it. He has all the documents for the car other than that.

Another story on this car. He said it come in from the factory with a large cut on the dash pad. He said it took several weeks for the new dash to come in and when it did, he helped the technician change the dash at the dealership.

For sure! My Great Grandfather bought a 1936 Oldsmobile new and have pictures of it. I also have 8 mm film of my aunts 68 Cutlass 4 door and my other aunts 72 442. Sadly, they are only background shots that are only a second or less.

Some great photos and film footage! Thank you for sharing. As previously mentioned, the crash photo is hard to look at. I seem to recall seeing it years ago on a different thread. Kudos on your dad for dropping the extra money for the W30 option, I’m sure that it hurt way back then which is why those cars are so coveted now. (Perhaps the discount provided justification)😊

Was he hurt in the accident? What did he hit or what hit him? Car looks completely totaled I’m sure there is some parts available to take off of it but he probably left it to the junkyard back in those days

It blows my mind that Anyone survived that accident. Unreal luck to have survived that impact. So many things to comment on. The wrinkled roof line is no joke. The way that car was compacted is no joke. That car hit something incredibly fast solid and strong. What a terrible end to your Dad's car. I am glad it wasn't your Dad in that car. 🙌
