Question 87 442 Anodized Aluminum moldings

I need to get my rear window, B pillar, and drip rails re anodized. I went to a local place that says they do it, but he said he needs to know what kind of aluminum it is. So my question is, does anyone know what kind of aluminum those moldings are made of? I would think a place that does that type of work would know, but I may be wrong..

Thanks!!

I just had some parts stripped and given back to me. I polished and gave them back for re anodizing. He never asked any questions, just took them and did his thing. Twelve pieces for a total of $60. They didn't like doing car parts but it turned out fine. Did you show him the parts?

The guy seemed like a ***** and never got off his fat a$$ to look at it. All he said was that he needed to know what kind of aluminum it was. I showed it to him from a distance, but again said he needed to know what kind of aluminum they are..

The correct finish is not anodizing,it's called bright dip. Anodizing is dull where bright dip is shiny. There is a company in Hobart,IN called Pro One Polishing that does great work. They like other vendors are sometimes slow but well worth the wait. You can always strip them and polish them but they will dull over time.

I have new NOS moldings for the windshield and they're not shiny or like chrome. To me the moldings were always more like a dull chrome finish. If you strip them and polish them they're way more chrome like then they were meant to be. I don't want them to look like chrome bumpers.. I want them to look factory. I never heard of "bright dip" I've always been told they're anodized aluminum.

Just looked that up. They call it Bright Dip Anodizing..

That's what I thought. There aren't many local shops here that do this. He was a bit of a ***** too.. Maybe he was having a bad day.. That or he doesn't know what he's doing..

Look for a company that does anodizing for production parts like electronic heat sinks, etc. That's the kind of outfit I went to and why it was so inexpensive. Also had to clean the parts well so as to not contaminate their stripping solution.
