I thought I would post this here in case anyone was interested. My 68 Toronado came with a factory 8-track player and I installed an original 8-track player in the holiday coupe I am building. I bought a few used factory oldsmobile demo tapes from ebay while I was restoring the Toronado. I was able to get the player working (had to take apart the motor in the unit and clean the brishes/ bearing surfaces). With the Toro finished and on the road, one by one the demo tapes failed. A few weeks ago I bought another Olds demo tape from a seller on eBay who reconditions 8-track tapes. I messaged him to see if he could repair my other Olds demo tapes and after a few rounds of comunication through eBay sent him the ones that had failed. He charged $5 per tape to reconnect the tape, install new sensing foil, install new pressure pads, and clean/ lubricate the tape. He told me it may cost more depending on the case design and what all needed to be repaired. I also bought 2 other Olds tapes he had. If you have any tapes that need fixed, you can message him through one of his eBay listings (I included a link to one below). He also just told me he has a few more demo tapes if you are looking for one. Just thought I would pass this info on as he did a nice job on my tapes at what I thought was a very fair price.

I can remember doing those myself. Radio Shack and Lafayette Radio had all the stuff to do them with!

"Slow Ride" crankin' thru a Craig Powerplay FM-8 track hanging under the dash with a pair of Jensen 6x9 Triaxials in the package shelf! I had one of those Audiovox "Sound Exploder" power boosters too!

Never knew how crappy it really sounded...☺️


As an aside Foghat opened for Blue Oyster Cult back around 1981. Saw the tour in Roanoke VA and when Foghat took the stage ol' Lonesome Dave was so whacked he didn't know he was in the USA much less Roanoke VA, but when FH started playing he locked in and they put on their typical tight ***** out show. Shame more people aren't still playing guitar driven boogie rocknroll.
