any help would be great. 69 442. am fm radio has 3 prong and the 8 track has a 8 prong coming out of it. not to versed on wiring but a friend is and want to clarify anything before he dives into it. thanks in advance!
You'll need to provide a little more information. Is the am/fm radio the OEM stock (optional) radio for the 1969 4-4-2? What is the manufacturer name of the 8 track stereo? What, exactly, are you attempting to do? Do you want to retain the am/fm radio? In most cases, you'd retain the current am/fm radio and simply add the 8-track radio separately (stand-alone). If your friend knows anything about automotive sound systems, they should (honestly) be able to address this easily. Separate speakers? Using same speakers? Adding more speakers? you need to explain more. How many speakers do you currently have installed. A 1969 am/fm radio is not a plug & play designed to accommodate additional peripherals but it certainly can be wired.
Pictures of both units and the wiring harness plugs of both units would help tremendously.
What are you trying to do, exactly? If this is the optional factory 8 track player, you must have either the optional AM/FM stereo or the optional rear speaker, since the 8 track is a stereo unit and requires two speakers. The 8 track has it's own internal amplifiers, so the wiring runs from the radio speaker outputs to the 8 track unit and from there to the speakers. The 8 track normally connects the radio outputs directly to the speakers, but if you insert a tape, the speakers are instead connected to the 8 track outputs.
