8 track belts, where to get them?

It has been several years since I bought any 8 track belts but I want to find the square cut belts and not the round ones.

I don't know for sure. Last time I found who had them I just got them for the 68-72 Olds 8 track player and they sent me the correct thing. I am not even sure how to measure them accurately with mine being hard as a rock.

I know you will not believe this, but I have seen people use a heavy duty rubber bands, because they can't find the correct size belt.. One of my friends in high school did this, when it broke, he just pop another one in. Of course this was not mounted in the dash..

For nine bucks Amazon has a pretty good flat belt assortment, this link is 4 mm flat - which do OK for many cassette decks, typically 8tracks may use this or wider.

I bought mine from these guys 6 years ago. They're a perfect fit and still running today.

Yes, if you know the dimensions, there are good sources, such as PRB, and turntable needles.

And really good belts can be (relatively) expensive but worth it - depending on your needs. I’ve been collecting and tinkering with home audio for about 30 years, and good PRB belts often cost more than the cost of the acquired (parts or repair) gear, so typically go for the Amazon assortment.

There are sources online but you will probably need to have an approximate size. Do a search on "8 track drive belt"

This is one place: https://www.turntableneedles.com/8-t...er_drive_belts I didnt look at their site but they might have it listed by model number. Knowing GM I bet they probably used the same basic drive in everything.

If you arent in a big rush I have the original AM/8 track out of my Chevelle sitting on the bench in the garage. I can pull the cover off this weekend and see if I can match the belt. If i have a belt in my stash I will send it to you.

The 68-72 Olds 8 tracks have two belts in them, both the exact same thing. Thanks

Hi. I’m not sure if these are the style you are after but the seller seems to think so (I have no experience with this company) but it might be worth sending an email.

I never thought I could possibly fix my own 8-track. Are they hard to dig into? I’ve never found much online. This thread has already added more than I knew before.

They look like the round cut. I prefer to get the original style square cut. I may call them and ask. The 8 track players are not terribly hard to revive usually. All of them need belts and cleaned. Some people will replace all the capacitors in them but I have had them work just fine with the originals. The belts are simple to replace. The track selector is often times gummed up from dried grease. You can clean them and lubricate them and work like a charm.
