76 Cutlass Hood

Well i'm just wondering if a 76 cutlass supreme hood will fit on a 76 cutlass s. I have an opportunity to get one for $60...good price or not?
Also I'm just wondering if it's the hinges that are shot on my hood...When you go to open it you literally need two people pretty much because the left side will bend (now there's a large bend in it)....And if it is, can I just take them off and clean/grease them a bit?

Yes, the hoods are the same. 60 bucks for a hood in good shape is always a great deal.

If you need 2 people to lift the hood there's definitely something wrong. Take the bent hood off the car and check your hinges. look for the obvious first. Check for easy movement of the hinge assembly. You might want to take the spring off first when you're doing this, but be carefull, it's got some good strength in in. If the hinge is frozen, probably better to replace it.

If you bent the hood already doing this, better get it fixed before you install a new hood. Better yet, tell the guy who has the hood that you also want the hinges and throw in another 10 bucks. Check them for good operation and definitely lube the hinged areas. I usually use a white lithium grease because it works well and tends to resist high temps and freezing. it doesn't run, wash off and its great for preventing rust, which is probably what caused your hinge to seize.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you found out. Post a pic showing the bend in your existing hood and the spring on that side oK?

Alright, thanks I'm going to see if I can get some pictures this weekend when I go by the car.

The guy just sent me pictures of the hood I was going to buy and I believe it has a rust hole all the way through about 1inch maybe...Might have just been a spot but looked like a hole so I might not buy it if the hood would be a bit easier to fix .

Are you kidding me? A rust hole? If it is, walk away. It'll cost more to fix than just going to the wrecker and getting a good one cheap on CL or ebay. Rust is one of the worst 4 letter words you can use when it comes to cars. Don't rush out and just buy the first hood you hear about for 60 bucks. Check them out. There's lots of good hoods out there for really dirt cheap prices.

Good luck.
