72 W29 package

In 72 if you ordered a Cutlass convertible with the W29 appearance package, would the car include the lower rocker moulding?

Also could the car be ordered with the split bench seat and the W29 package or did it have to come with bucket seats. Thanks

All your questions can be answered with what is in the library at Wild About Cars. The info there will tell you exactly what the '72 W29 package was, and much more.

Wild About Cars. http://wildaboutcars.com. An information supersource, especially Oldsmobile. More Olds content than anywhere else on the internet and continuing to grow.
You'll find Chassis Service Manuals, Product Information Manuals (AKA Assembly Manuals), Inspector's Manuals, and other documents that will contain this and much much more.
Dealer Brochures, magazine ads and articles, and a home page for you online. You can even have your very own club there and a personal forum.

WMachine. Can you explain why the registration is so complex and why to access anything you have to register?

We ask you to register – because just like this site – to post you need to register. Second, many people have gone to great effort to load the materials on the site and we want to determine what people are looking at so we can expand those areas. If you don’t register in , just like here, there is no way to tell who is viewing what. Third, questions we ask like Brand Affiliation, for example, customizes your dashboard page to your brand –making it easier to find stuff. Forth, if we know where you are from we can customize messages to people without bothering the whole group. For example a notice on a car meet in northern CA was sent to 44 people instead of the 975 people in the group.

Displaying your brand on the site helps other people hook up with those with a similar interest – they may want to post on your wall, send a PM or even ask you a question. How you got there tells us where we should advertise or the effectiveness of our advertising.

Complex? You're kidding me, right? Seems like a small price to pay for accessing the wealth of of information there. If one is paranoid about giving out their name, then one doesn't belong there. That is a place for *real* car hobbyists, not phantom internet skulkers.

Thanks. I registered and it does have a lot of info. Your explanation helps. I'm a computer geek that's in the legal field so I get nervous about giving out so much info. And no I'm not kidding about complex. Compared to most forums there is way more info requested. But Your explanation makes sense.

I appreciate the honesty and am actually glad you brought that up. There have been many changes to the site since the beginning to improve navigation. And anyone who hasn't "been back" in the last couple months is missing out. This is a live interaction site, not a stagnant billboard site.

Quite frankly that has quite a challenge, because nothing like this has been attempted before, and so there is no precedent for how to structure it. There is a *lot* of different things there that are interrelated and all under one roof.
However, the further we go the better we get at putting it together.
Please take another look, I expect you'll find it easier. Use your dashboard as a home base. You can "get anywhere" from there now. And there is always help available.

The 72 W29 option package had no set set of seats. Therefore you could have any available for that year and model.

The Olds Performance Club still has monthly meetings. They are usually either the First or Last Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be August 31. You can get all the information if you go to the Olds Performance Club's Caledar @ http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...accalendar.cgi and click on the meeting info on the 31st, all the sign-in info is there.

The meeting begins at 9:00 PM EDT.

And bright rocker molding came standard on the Cutlass Supreme in '72. But the kicker is original documentation to prove it has the W-29 package i.e. build sheet, window sticker, sales order so and so forth since the W-29 was just an appearance and handling option for 1972 and no longer a platform with a definite VIN beginning with "344" for the 4-4-2 in the years '68-'71. Anyone could put badges and grilles on a '72 but the FE-2 suspension takes a bit more work to pull it off.

I know I wont be able to prove my car was born as a W29, thats not my concern. I want to clone it as close to correct as I can. So I'm trying to find little tid bits of info. So would the rocker moulding be omitted with the W29 package. I did join the Wild about cars website but I'm not a great researcher and hav'nt found the answers to all my questions yet.

Thanks Rob for answering one of my questions

The moulding answer is in the assembly manual if you have one. Not sure where but I remembered seeing it there long ago.
