'72 H/O pace car pricing

I'd like to get an idea from you knowledgable folks of what the value of a '72 H/O with a non-working sunroof might be? There's no rust but there are a couple small indentations (no broken paint) in the driver's side fender. They're the type that would pop out on todays cars, but probably wouldn't on 40 year old metal. Runs great and looks pretty darn good too. Has a landau top, it's not pure white so I think the color is pretty close to correct, not sure if the material is correct or if it's installed correctly. Has air but not sure if it works and really don't care. The car is nice as is, not great, but I'd be quite pleased bringing it to cruises and such, especially if I could do something with the fender. I offered 16,000 but the seller is looking for more. If we rate the car as a 3 on a scale of 1-5, 1 being trailer queen, 2 being quite nice and 3 being driveable and cruise nightable but in need of some restoration work to get to solid #2 status, you think it's worth more? Any way of getting the sunroof to work if it's a motor problem? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

IMO I'd say your offer was more than fair. Considering your description. Documentation is a plus when buying these cars and is very sought after. Need pics and what if any docs are with it to give my further opinion of a price.

There were only 220 72 HO's made with a sunroof, so it's a pretty rare car. Anything mechanical can be taken apart and fixed, but the non working sun roof would be something that you could use as negotiating tool on pricing. Any chance you can post some pics.

BTW, if this is an original car, the gold will be decals, not paint. Good luck with your bargaining. I would love to see the overall condition first before I comment further. No offence but valuation in the eye of the seller and eye of the buyer are 2 different things.

Thanks for responding. I'm negotiating with a friend of the woman who's selling the car, her husband passed a couple years ago. So far, no paperwork has been produced. The stripes are decals, and as a matter of fact, the hood stripes have a line horizontal line on them where the solid gold begins to fade. is this correct? I saw the plate on the firewall which show W45, 03d, 11 11, A51... I also saw the GA on the driver's side head. Was a code on the oil filler tube but it was faded and I couldn't read it.

I'm 50 years old and I've wanted one of these since like 1985. Always too much money and/or too far away or no sunroof or something. This one is a hop skip and a jump away. I know what one person is willing to pay is different from what someone else will pay, I just don't want to miss out on this. I wish there was some paperwork, no dents in the fender, and if the sunroof worked, I think I'd go up on my offer. By the way, how do you post a picture on here?

W45 is the H/O code.

See if it has an X in the VIN. Now that would be rare

Agreed, but likely a U code.

Well we knew it was one of those codes, because it has GA heads. IIRC Not a lot of Olds A bodies got the 455 in 72.

Well, just to close this thread and thank those that responded, I appear to have missed out on my dream car. I went to $18,000 on the car and I'm being told 20 got it done. I'm pretty bummed out but I just wouldn't have been able to live with myself paying that much and driving the car with a couple dents in the fender, a non-working sunroof and a few other minor things. I may have blown my best chance at finally owning a '72 H/O with a sunroof but if this one came along, maybe another one will too.
Thanks again for responding and hearing me out.

Scott, look on the bright side
Buy a decent CS and clone it to your dream ride. Prolly cost a whole lot less than the 20 large someone paid to have the one that got away and still needed fixing. Guess it all depends on how important it was to have the W45 on the cowl tag and history.
