72 cutlass supreme

Hello

I was wondering if someone knows where I can get a set of sport mirrors and I’m also looking for the body center molding (8 total or know where I can get so reproduction molding) for 72 Cutlass supreme notchback, I would like to put them back.

Also what other mirrors would fit and not look goofy. I’ve tried 74 Monte Carlo and 80 Cutlass they fit and the angles look good, just look tall.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Body center molding? Can you be more descriptive? I have a lot of trim but I don't know to which particular piece you are referring.

KDW,
I've got some of those moldings. I'll get pictures for you in a day or so?
Thanks.

I have those channels, but you would have to buy the rubber insert new. When I removed them for paint the rubber was brittle and cracked. The channels are in great shape though...I just decided not to put any trim back on my car. Let me know if you want them...

Yeah, those do look a little tall...I have '72 mirrors I got out of a junkyard 20 years ago lol! I was trying to find a picture that showed them like yours do but this is the best I could come up with.

Here is the best picture I have of the side molding...I have all the parts except the rubber insert. It just screws into the body panel and then you insert the rubber into the channel and install the end caps.

This is the car before paint and engine:

Mirror

They are coming of first thing AM lol...what other mirrors work on 72s? Everyone on eBay claim to have a set, but what I’ve noticed the base has a Phillips head on one side of the base? Some of the ones on eBay don’t have it.

What are you asking for them

I'm not sure what other mirrors interchange. I know the 71-72 mirrors are different than years prior. You may find a mid 70's Trans Am or firebird and see if they are close.

The mirrors should have a phillips fastener at the base on the mirror side of it.

'71-'72 Cutlass/442 mirrors would be correct for your car. Both mirrors should have a shiny phillips head screw in the rear of each base. Neither mirror should have "objects in mirror....". Mirrors are mounted on small metal brackets that are turned up at each end. One end hooks in to a spot in the base, the other end has a threaded hole for that shiny phillips screw. The metal brackets sit on top of a black plastic oval shaped gasket with two holes in it. They both are screwed to the door with 5/16" headed short screws. The '72 passenger side is often riveted to the door instead of screwed on? Sometimes you'll see sport mirrors that look similar to these but the base has a longer, thinner oval shape to it & if you see them side by side with an older mirror, you can tell they are different. Also, usually the later passenger side will have the "objects in mirror", but not always.
Buick sport mirrors use a wedge shaped plastic gasket that adjusts the angle of the top of the mirror. If mounted correctly, the top of sport mirrors on A body cars should be horizontal to the ground. If you look around, you can find cars with mirrors that lean to far in or out.
Be sure of what you're getting, & good luck.

Thanks....for the information I’m really trying to get the correct one before I paint.

The other alternative is I have the chrome mirror with remote which is the original but I can find the right side to match. I don’t even know if they made them?

No, if they didn't have sport mirrors they didn't get a passenger side mirror. I was going to ask, do you need wheel well moldings? I didn't put them back on my car either, I have those as well in great shape.

Pilot,
Not to be argumentative but I have seen some chrome non remote passenger side mirrors before. I think they were a match to the non remote drivers side mirror, the lightly dished/half clam shell type.

KDW,
I have the rear window trim also. I will get pictures of that as well as the side moldings.

My 72 Supreme has sports mirrors on both sides and here is a pic I had of the passenger side.

I can't tell you much about them since the previous owner put them on. I like em.

Thumbs up mirrors

Nice Cutlass, my mirrors look similar, dose yours have a small phillips head screw under the mirror?

If not they are from a later model A body car. Looks real good
