72 CS glove box light
#2
Bulb goes up so it shines through the plastic, screw goes up into metal dash, bulb on the inside of the screw.
Wire it up but leave it hanging. Then install the glovebox liner. Once the liner is in place it's pretty obvious - there's a notch for it.

I found my light tucked in behind the glove box. Here are pics of it. Looks like it has been painted. If the bulb faces UP then mine will never work, but the plastic has a small bend in it so it tilts up or down depending on how you mount it. That is why I asked which way is which.

Edit: I checked my car this evening and the glove box lamp is painted black like yours, so I don't know what I was remembering.
I noticed years ago that some are painted and others are not. Both my '70 and '71 had non-painted lenses, so I'm thinking the '72 lenses were painted, but I have no data to verify that.

So if the bulb goes up, there is no way for light to shine down into the box. So should I scrape off the paint and hope there is enough translucency remaining to illuminate the glove box.

I found this thread with pictures. Hope it helps:

I looked at mine this evening and it is mounted the same as in the post above. The black painted surfaces are to block the light from shining into your eyes at night.
