I posted this message in newbie section by mistake. I have a 72 Cutlass I changed ring and pinion, installed new brake drum kits and lines and lastly replaced seals, bearings and retainers on old stock axles.
The problem now is after installing axles I have about 1/4" in and out free play. What could be causing this excessive free play? Attached a pic if this helps? Bearings and retainers are fully pressed in, this are not "C" clip axles. I'm stuck please HELP!!!

 

I see a shiny area on the axle shaft between the seal and the retainer. Perhaps the bearing/seal is not pressed fully onto the axle shaft?
