The fundamental issue, for any item or service offered for sale, how is the item/service represented and is there an attempt to defraud. Unfortunately fraud is prevelant, hence the advice Buyer Beware. Your only upfront defense is education, your own or that of a trusted advisor. Recourse after the transaction can be expensive and exhaustive. I don't know how the vehicle in question was represented and the information shared with the prospective buyers.
PS: This is exactly my defense to before pictures. Show me this car before it was mutilated into what it is now. If it was real and legitimate you would have before pictures. But you don't. Gee I wonder why???...🤔

Well, it was worth it to someone..you don’t know nor do I if this was a true w31 with added on ac, pb etc..why all the hate? There are plenty of cars for sale for a lot less if someone doesn’t want concourse restored vehicles. Just the cost alone to have a car restored to this degree exceeds 80k, not including the purchase of the car..So what if it brings big money at an auction..bottom line these auctions have helped catapult the hobby in many many good ways..gone are the days for finding a muscle car in the alley and paying 1500 for it. So I guess I am one in your “fools category”

I hear ya, I don’t understand a lot of auction prices.. I was watching Mecum yesterday, and that challenger known as the Black ghost out of Detroit, was an old run down garage kept car, but it wasn’t in great shape by any means just had some notoriety from street racing, I realize it was the only black on black, gator vinyl top 4 speed se series hemi ever built but…. it sold for right at a million dollars with fees. A friend of mine knows the guy that bought it because he’s a client of his and he told him the car was pretty rough. Once he got it and now he’s contemplating whether to leave it as is or restore it. In my simple mind he’ll never get his money back but then again who knows…its crazy..My guess is some of these folks have been extremely successful and made a lot of money and they just want what they want. Hey, you only live once and if you got the money it doesn’t matter to you as you what you want I guess. I’m not in that position, but if I was, I may do the same thing.
