'70 W30 - RED w/ WHITE stripes.........

Hi all,

I had a chance to go visit Derek (Dick) Cook this past weekend. I had an opportunity to see his '70 W30 4 speed, Canadian documented car.
The colour combination on this W machine is outstanding - White w/ Red stripes.

I have not seen this colour combination before and this car is documented from the factory that it came this way! (Canadian docs)

Has anyone else seen another W machine in this colour combo that was documented?

I am sharing a few pictures of the car with permission from Derek (Dick).

Thanks Dick for all you do to help me - VERY much appreciated!

Cheers,

Sam

Sam,
In the early 1990s I spotted a 1970 W30 white, red stripes, and a white interior in Burnaby B.C. It was on the road driving, so I did not get a chance to discuss the car with the owner.

I noticed the service interval sticker on the valve cover, which I believe was a Canada thing, correct me if I'm wrong. My RamRod had it on the left inner fender panel which was also a Export to Canada. This W-30 is awesome! Love the color combo.

The colour (spelled with a U as it has Canadian docs:-) combo is really outstanding especially with SS1's.

Nice license plate too.

Ryan

PS: Could this Canadian service sticker have been added to my valve cover originally? I assumed as these valve covers have the Candadian sticker they were from the extra engine I received with my 69 W31.

Not to be pedantic, but isn't that car white with red stripes and not as the title says?

Interesting combo, it looks like a peppermint mint. Very Christmas-y and refreshing.

It never ceases to amaze me the different color combinations that either a dealer or creative buyer thought of. I would not of thought of white and red stripes, but it looks great. I've only seen a '70 in Platinum with red pinstripes. Too bad the red interior option was not kept from '69. My brother had a '69 in Platinum with red interior and red pin stripes. Also saw a '71 in Saddle brown and gold stripes. All great colo combinations.

Yes, typo, but I'm sure you can figure it out by looking at the pictures!

The red stripes with red fender liners look great with white. Do Canadian docs tell you if the car was ordered for dealer stock or a customer order? I am guessing customer order in this case.

Somewhere on here a year or two ago was a thread about interesting color combos & I remember a Sebring yellow with red stripes or Matador? red with yellow stripes, I can't remember which but it was striking. Can anyone find those pix? I've looked a couple times with no luck.

Are you thinking of the 70 W-31 that was Sebring Yellow with Gold stripes? It was at Homecoming last year.

Don,
Pretty sure I'm not thinking of that one. I don't get to even look at many cars at the Homecoming as I'm to busy trying to sell some of my junk!
I've done google searches & still have not found it but I'm sure I remember seeing Red & Yellow in some combo.

Thanks Don!
And to think that Oldsmobile had one of the better/best handling intermediates of the era, look at that yellow car, it's about to fold that driver tire right off the rim.

Great looking car. I was trying to figure what was wrong with the front end around the headlights and grill and noticed the Hood wasn't closed all the way.

Y'know, I had skipped this thread because it is titled as if it is a red car with white stripes. White and red? Perhaps my favorite classic paint scheme!

Without having seen the following comments, I think red stripes are the rarest of the bunch. I see lots of black/red cars, but I think they have been restored to the owners' taste.

It's somewhat strange because red trim was not terribly uncommon in '68-69, but '70 it seems to be much rarer. I can say the same thing about Mopars too.

Too cool!

.....and it was thought by some that only Mopars had unusual color combinations. Thank you Don for the images.

I'm guessing the gold striped car is actually orange, i.e Rally Red. Never seen a Matador red with gold stripes. The gold with red stripes is really unusual, I wonder which gold color it is?

Besides the body color being on documentation and the trim tag, does anyone know if the stripe color was documented in any way? It is amazing how color combinations - body, stripes, interior, and if applicable, the top - can make same model cars pop or not.

70 w30

Thanks for all the Kudo's on the colours.

According to my docs, the car was dealer ordered(Belisle Chev/Olds) here in Ottawa, Ontario and never left the area. It had 8 previous owners who I believe all drag raced it! I have contacted some of the PO's & have some pics of it in earlier years. It was in sad shape when I got it in 2000, no drivetrain(so it's not numbers matching) and mostly all it had was it's doghouse with a bent frame.
But being a documented W30 with that colour scheme I had to have it & saved it for my retirement project - which is now complete.
Now what do I do besides enjoy it, lols.

In over 15 years looking, the only other 70 white/red car I have found is the 70 W31 post dragcar that is on the W machine registry. That car was thought to be parted out after becoming a rusted hulk. So, possibly it is the only white/red W30 left.

Well, the yellow/red was not a factory recommended combo, so the combination was spec'd by a buyer. In this case, I only know it was a test car for Cars magazine before going to Motion Performance.

I'm guessing the gold striped car is actually orange, i.e Rally Red. Never seen a Matador red with gold stripes. The gold with red stripes is really unusual, I wonder which gold color it is?
The gold is a specific stripe color - see attached.

I've seen both Rally Red and Matador Red with gold stripes. Gold is rather neutral, matching many colors, even if Olds didn't make it a recommended combination. Don't believe me? Then look at this:

The "dust trail" option was available on any color and, as you can see, it was gold.

Besides the body color being on documentation and the trim tag, does anyone know if the stripe color was documented in any way? It is amazing how color combinations - body, stripes, interior, and if applicable, the top - can make same model cars pop or not.
I would think it would be on the build sheet.

I'm attaching some other white/red cars - they are out there.

Thanks Diego for the info and photo. Always did like the '70 Road Runner.

Sorry, I was not clear about the gold color. I was actually asking about the body color of the '70 W-30 convertible and which gold it was.

Does anyone know the block number and code on a build sheet for the car's original stripe color?

The gold/red car was sold by this dealership YEARS ago:

http://classicdreamcars.com

The car had been restored with white stripes, which was unfortunate. However, in a stroke of luck, I do have the stats on the car:

VIN#344670M______, REAR DIFF: "SF", TRANSMISSION "70 OW", BODY: "LAN", STYLE: "4467", TRIM: Z977, PAINT: 58, TIME BUILT "11B" HEADS:"4404438F", BLOCK: "396021. ENGINE: "TT

Red stripes were not a recommended color with the gold, but the buyer was a fan of a FL college team that had those colors.

I'm still quite amazed I had the car's stats!

WOW - I believe that the W30 on the trailer is my car back in it's racing days!!

There is a Canadian flag in the distance & it has a maple leaf lincense plate.

I will have to show it to previous owners & see if they recognize it.

Thanks
