My Cutlass S has the the hood you posted Allan...72
I thought the converts came with the same hood as the CS in 70 and the louvers that ran across the hood by the cowel were for 442's and S's with AC...I am sure I read that here somewhere

Ted, the 71 and 72 hoods were pretty much identical - except for the 42 W29 option. That one had different hydro piercings for the Oldsmobile Script on the LF above the headlight bucket.

I'm wondering if you're getting the 72 AC/non AC hoods mixed up. The 72 model year brought in hoods that had no rear vent piercings for AC cars. Non AC cars retained the piercings at the back by the cowl, but there was no trim insert there.

In 71, All the hoods (except W25) had rear cowl piercing. The hood in your pic is definitely 1970 though.

Picture for you Ted,
1970 442 standard hood. I looked in the 1970 Assembly Manual [see section 11, pages 172 / 174] and it suggests that the following models got this : 3677, 3687, 3577, 3587, and 4400. Interestingly it also shows piercing on the hood for the Oldsmobile script above the LS headlights! The 1970 CS (non 442) had a different hood (stock from factory).

As you know, the CS vert was a candidate for 442 so anything goes there. If the hood came on your ??non 442??? CS I'd suggest that a PO sometime put it on. Possibly by choice or as replacement from available parts after collision? Just guessing on how it got there.

This is weird that I am quoting myself, but I could not find another pic of the breather.....the car is in storage....can anybody help me to identify the breather...it is not original to the car, and a friend said it was from a 68 or 69 HO or a w31....anywhere I can look for numbers or something that would identify it as being so?...any help would be appreciated....

Thanks,
Ted

Post number 20 is a pic of the breather

The breather is from a 71/72 Cutlass 4bbl (350 or 455) with a SMT. I also have one but it looks a tad bit purtier.

Allan, the Olds 71-72 dual snorkel has 2 completely different snorkel sizes, one long and one short. The breather pictured above has 2 long snorkels that are identical. It looks to be 71-72 GTO, maybe 70 also.

Here's the 71 442 and the 72 455 4speed air cleaner, to compare with the above dual snorkel.

That looks exactly like the one I have, only yours is a tad bit shinier. Mine is a satin finish.

@orange442 - Yes, you're right. Good eye for detail.

I had a breather like that on my 69 Pontiac GTO, and on my 70 Formula firebird.

If I remember correctly, based on a different year's build sheet, some think it means the car was destined for Canada. I am of the opinion that it doesn't mean this, as my 4 door has the Z and it never was, nor intended to be, in Canada. It just has something to do with the interior because on the Broadcast card the Z is in the interior section.

No matter, you have quite the gem there. A convertible with power windows is the way to go. Who wants to stretch across the car and crank down windows?
Indeed, a vert with crank windows makes you walk around the car cranking down the windows. Oy!

Ted, the deck lid wing is completely wrong. Wonder what it came off of. Not a Cutlass that's for sure. Doesn't look all that bad for Ont!
