70 cutlass S Post door trim
70 cutlass S Post door trim
Hello all,
Finally making some noticable progress on the old post!!! Should have the tub primed this weekend Hopefully
My questions:
I have noticed on some of the post models either stainless or chrome trim around the doors and rear side windows. Was this an option or something that people add or have plated?
My door window frames and back side glass trim was painted the same color as the car and black, How was this suppost to be originally if I stay with body color?
. Is this trim available anywhere if I decide to go this route? The only trim I have is for around the back side glass nothing for around the door glass frame. If my car didn't come equiped with this trim around the door frame is there something I would need to add to hold the trim in place? Or does it simply clip on over the frame edge? I've only seen the trim in pictures never in person.
Thanks for any input you may have on this.

>Base level trim car: Apparently you have this. On the rear/side glass, as 1001 mentions, there is trim above the glass and also on the pillar. I believe you may need to remove the fuzzies from the window channels and you will then see how these pieces come off. Upper curved piece held on with 3 screws. Pillar/post piece is clipped on I believe....need to check one again.
On your car these were painted body color. At least the upper curved piece may be made of steel instead of bright anodized aluminum as found on the higher trim level cars.
Your door glass frames are bare painted steel....no painted trim pieces, etc.
>Next level: Would have been bright anodized aluminum trim pieces - 5 total on each side of the car. As mentioned, the door pieces can be hard to remove without damaging them. The factory just put hung the top edge of these things on the door frames and smacked them into place....easier process than removing them (they weren't worried about that).
>Another option: Would have been the bright aluminum moldings along the base of the door and quarter glass (2 pieces on each side). With this option, the alum trim pieces have the outer window sweeper/fuzzies attached to the alum trim (not permanently...the fuzzies sort of clip on with triangular tabs you put through slots and then bend over).

You'll have to find good used pieces as the stuff is not repro'd by anyone. The stuff is easily damaged by overzealous removal techniques (ORT's) so be careful when looking at used parts.
