'70 Cutlass Help on hood

Hello All,

I am restoring a '70 Cutlass. It was mostly disassembled when I got it so I didn't get to take everything apart and see how it went back together.

At the bottom of the hood tongue, there are holes like something should be attached to the bottom.

I have searched the internet for pictures and the only one I have found also shows holes along the bottom of the tounge just like mine.

I have attached the photo I found on the internet showing the holes.

Can anyone tell me it there is something that should be attached along the bottom of the tongue?

thanks,

Pat

I think there were little rubber conical nubs that popped in there from the bottom. I'm not sure if many cars even came with them, or they all disintegrated over the years. I think it's a rattle deadener.

My Dad bought a 1970 Supreme in 1977 and those holes were empty. I vividly remember that detail after the first time I cracked the back of my head on that dang tongue. Sure woulda been nice if Olds had installed a rubber guard of some sort.

Ive owned 7 or eight 1970 Cutli since 1978, and none of them had anything in these holes.

Its possible they were used to locate the part in a fixture when the holes for the different emblems were drilled. I have no proof, but its a possibility
