'70 - '72 Convertible A Pillar Weatherstrip Channel Restoration
A pillar stainless trim cleaned, professionally polished and new guide clips properly installed. With the correct tool to set tubular rivets, you can get absolute OEM perfection. Incidentally, it's a 1/8 x 5/32 semi tubular rivet. Details ...
Finally fished these up! ILT has the perfect channel weatherstrip for these. I used a copper fitting of the correct diameter to cut the large holes by simply tapping it with a hammer, allowing the edge of the fitting to cut the weatherstrip. For the small holes, I used a single hole punch.
This is on my short list of "to do" items for my car. Tell me about the rivets you used and I assume the C-clamp tool was used on the rivets. Thanks
Rodney
Rodney, they're 1/8 semi-tubular rivets and 4mm in length. This is precisely the way they were done originally. The tool is commonly used by guys that restore Tonka (and other) antique metal toys. If you'll recall, Tonka trucks had these same rivets holding the bumpers on. These tools are a little hard to come by though and basically special made. I bought two actually ... both equally serviceable.
