'70 442 Power Trunk Release vs Key Type
Hello All,
My question is (and I think I posted this before) the standard key operated trunk lock has a square hole that the square rod from the key set fit's into to unlatch the trunk.
All 3 electric trunk opener's that I have purchased have a "hour glass" shaped hole for the rod to be operated by the key (if the electric opener fails).
If anyone know's of the differnce in these two rods or has a picture of a OEM car with power trunk opener, a picture of that rod for key activation would really help.
I have tried the standard key operated sqauare rod very sloppy in the electric opener because of the "hour glass" shape. I went as far as putting some shrink tube on the square manual rod to built it up (thickness) but it
is very sloppy yet.
On a bright note I was lucky enough to find 2 of the Chrome bezel type buttons that was used in 1970 only. 1 was a "10" the second is a "9.5" score big!!!! I looked for two years to find them.
Thanks in advance!

I just installed a power trunk assembly and I guess I didn't notice the difference. I did notice that you had to turn the key a little bit more to the left to engage the unlock. But I can't remember if it was like that before or not. That would make sense though, if the flat rod (square) was going into a hourglass shaped hole, it would take more of a turn to get it to engage. It still worked so I guess I didn't put much thought into it.
You bring up a very interesting question, do they use a different rod? I bet Scott (oldspackrat) would know. That where I got my unit from.
