70-442 ashtrays

Did 70-442 ashtrays come painted black or were they the natural stainless finish? Seems like in 70 they were nat and then painted black in 71-72

I believe that is correct but it would be Zinc 70 and something more like phosphate 71-2. They were not painted.

Ditto that.....clear (ie - silver) zinc for '70 and 71/2 were most likely a black oxide (ie - gun bluing) that took on a brown or green color when used on the ashtray metal. Olds probably specified a certain color on the oxide for '71/2.
