69 trunk edge molding

I recently bought a 69 442 parts car that had stainless molding on the edge of the trunk lid. I’ve had a few ‘69s and had never seen this option. Didn’t even know it existed. Maybe I’m just not very observant lol. Just curious how rare this option was. I see that it’s being reproduced.

I think it is standard for a 442.

This is true. H/Os has it standard as well, since it is based on 442. It was not even an option for any other version. It came in leiu of the wide potmetal treatment of Cutlass across the trunk key lock or the single rocket emblem located above the trunk key lock on F-85.

Ok, just must have just been missing on all I’ve had. I see a lot without, I suppose it just doesn’t get put back on after restorations. Thanks

Fusick has a reproduction trunk edge molding for the '69 4-4-2 & H/O, part number TEM69. They aren't cheap but you might want to consider it if yours is missing.

It attaches to the deck lid with a series of small screws similar to the screws on the windshield base moulding. If you see a 442 without it, look for the screw holes. Not sure why someone would paint or restore one and leave this off but I guess the average person not familiar with these cars wouldn’t even know it was missing.

This trim piece is one year only for 1969 442. If it's missing you may be looking at a Faux 42 Just like the rocket emblem on the door panels. Little details missed during the clone.

I notice the parts car has the power antenna. That option is extremely rare and worth saving.

Over the years the trim gets dinked, chipped, bent, dented, etc. Since it is a hard piece to find, and even harder and kind of expensive to get repaired, many people restoring their 442s simply left it off hoping to find another somewhere in better shape, or whatever the reason instead of putting on the old dented one. Also, some people just don't like shiny trim on their cars and think it looks better leaving it off. Variety of reasons.

Just when you think you know everything lol. I thought maybe it was an option, like door edge guards etc.
