69 Hurst Olds hood scoop questions - now with pics

I have a friend that has a 69 Hurst Olds hood scoop and he is trying to identify if it is an original piece or not. The scoop, to me, does not appear to have ever been on anything. My reasons for believing this are the rough casting and the fact that it would need some edging and cleanup to even sit down on the hood right, as well as the raw fiberglass casting on the edges, I do not believe it has ever had white or gold paint on it, or any other color for that matter.

The catch is it has been around for a long time, the guy he got it from has had it for years. When were the first reproductions offered?

I will go home tonight and take a bunch of pictures and post them to see what you guys think. Is it even possible that an original scoop made for the original offering of the cars, could be in circulation without ever being painted and installed on anything? Like maybe Hurst had more scoops made than they did cars?

I suppose its possible that its an OEM Hurst scoop ...but I suspect its an aftermarket. I remember seeing them advertised (long, long ago!) from places like J.C.Whitney....(you oldsters remember, right ? The pages that had like 100 different scoops in all shapes/sizes !!??)

Post up the pics. I'm sure there are people here on CO that will be able to tell what it is...

I think the originals had 10 studs molded into the bottom of the scoop.

I have a bunch of pictures but can't find my cable to transfer them to the computer. The ten studs are fiberglassed into the bottom of the scoop, you can see obvious square sections of fiberglass cloth. I am still looking for the cable.

I'm sure there is someone on this site that has an original H/O and has had their scoop off at some point. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Not at all original, it is incorrect as well... That scoop is missing a 'bottom' portion... The front portion of the inlets on an original have all 4 sides, that only has 3, thus it would be using the actual hood of the car as the bottom.

For what it is worth, I bought the scoop! How do you think it would look on my 70?
