69 Deluxe Steering Wheel

Hi everyone, I posted in the parts wanted with no joy, but I can't help think that I'm just not reaching a broad enough audience. So let me try this. Does anyone have a 69-70 deluxe steering wheel? I'm looking for a black one that is driver quality. Don't need, nor could I afford a cherry one. Anyone have one they could let go? Thanks.

I understand your pain as steering wheels can be elusive, and when you do score, the price can be surprising and too so is the condition. Additionally, if you must seek a restored wheel, be prepared to wait, and then shell out big bucks for an example that should last another lifetime.

I’ve found it is beneficial to ask directly when looking for parts. I’m not advocating for either of these guys but try BeenThere on this site, or call Ross Hungsinger 215-852-2830. I saw the wheel you are searching for at Murfreesboro, but I can’t remember which seller had it or if it may have sold. I do recall that Hungsinger brought with him an extensive inventory of clean used parts to the Nationals. Good luck.

Thank you. I have done business with 'Been There' before and have no complaints. I will give both of them a try.

Being out here in the west, it feels like all of the parts and good meets are always in the east. It can be frustrating. Not many Olds guys in my neck of the woods. Most people don't even know what it is, and the ones that do, ask me why? Oh well. I will always have my Olds.

Also try OldsPackRat (Scott Winn cell # 317-727-7041) on this site as well.

I know, but the '70 is really just an upside down version of the '69. I'd prefer the '69, but don't want to be too picky.

Gonna bump this one to the top. So a year later, has anyone got a driver quality '69 or '70 deluxe steering wheel? Still looking.
Thanks.

Unfortunately I cannot afford a good Sport wheel. I'm looking for the deluxe wheel. I know '69 and '70 are different, but only in the sense that they are rotated 180 degrees.

No worries Jamesbo. You're not wrong. It is a one year only wheel. I actually currently have my sport wheel out of my Hurst/Olds in the car, but unfortunately even sitting in the garage for the last year and never seeing the sun, the wheel is still off-gassing and is slimy. So I'm just hoping that I can find a Deluxe wheel somewhere.

Here's a black '70 Deluxe Wheel that I have. Has ONE crack on the L hand backside out near the intersection of the center "spoke"/horn bar area and the outer rim. Other defects are the clear acrylic in the channel is old and yellowed out/cracking up, the bright insert in the channel is chewed up/worn and two spots on the channel have some "spreading"/widening of the channel.

Horn pad is complete but the alum/"OLDSMOBILE" metal insert has plenty of worn areas on the woodgrain pattern. I've pulled this insert out for the most part and it can be put back in place by prying up the surrounding vinyl edges and glued.

I have the attachment hardware for the horn pad (nylon inserts, springs, spacers, screws).

Driver quality for sure after some cleanup. PM me if you want to discuss further.

Just wanted to say many thanks to 70Post for a good driver quality wheel. I will probably use it for a while and then look into getting it restored. Two thumbs up!!

When you cross that bridge, keep Gary's Steering Wheel Restoration in Carlisle PA in mind. He's done them for several folks on here.
