I brought home a 1967 Cutlass Supreme Convertible today, from Lansing MI. It has Supreme emblems on the fenders and trunk. I don't see these on other 67's , did someone add this?

Here's a page from the '67 Olds brochure showing three Cutlass Supremes. None have anything below the "Cutlass" script behind the front wheel.




That "Supreme" badge looks like it's from the 1980s.

 

I thought someone added it. car looks to have a few options. power antenna, power windows, air, cruise, and power trunk release.If someone know codes, I would appreciate a break down of them.

 

Here's what I come up with on the cowl tag.

12E = time built code = 5th week (E) of December (12) 1966
67 = model year
3 = Oldsmobile
38 = Cutlass with V-8 engine
67 = convertible style
LAN = Lansing assembly plant
973-B = ? (Indicates front seat style and color, I believe)
Paint D = lower body color = crystal blue
Paint 2 = upper body or convertible top color = probably black if your car's top is original

First accessory group:
E = tinted glass
X = power windows
S = power trunk release

Second accessory group
E = air conditioning (I think)
T = rear-mounted power antenna

Fifth accessory group
Y = deluxe front seat belts


That is a very nicely-optioned car.

I have '67 Delta 88, so I have some literature from that year.

Nice car. Nice options. 330/320 horse I assume. Going to be a nice project. Odd that it was coded as a black vert top on an all light blue car considering a blue top was available in 67.

The women I bought car from , told me she drove it into the garage 20 years ago and parked it, because gas tank fell down ( strap broke) . I took the tank out before I moved it from her garage ( tank was held in with wire). Anyway, I got it home and took out the old battery, ( a montgomery wards battery) put new battery in and it turned over, but didn't start, bad points. I drained the oil, and got 3 gallons of water + oil from motor. Is this motor junk, or is it possible that a head gasket rusted, letting the water in? Any thoughts? My friend said to change the oil, and see if it will run! If it runs pull the motor and rebuild it, and I will be good to go.

 

Change or clean points, look at spark plugs, just squirt some gas into carb and see what happens. Engine may not be junk, you need to pull it and disassemble and evaluate. 330's aren't hard to find if needed. Have you inspected the frame for rot?

 

That's nice. Could you do us both a favor and take a whole lot of pictures of the cruise control system (transmission, cables, vacuum hoses, harness, the bellows, and where the chain goes)? I'd like to know, and it will help you put it back right.

 

Have new points, came today. I do have two 65 330's and one 66 330. Have not had any of the three running, but turn over by hand. The plugs all look good. As for the frame, that's a different thing all together, someone has welded 1/4 steel , over the whole frame ( great weld job ! ) it is all boxed in , look professional.But is still welded on, either way you look at it.

 

I can, but it will be down the road. car is in my storage garage now. while I finish up my 70 Cutlass. One car at a time! But I thought it was a good deal, and couldn't pass it up. I should have my 70 done in about 3 or 4 weeks.

 

I'd use the 66/330 if forced to change. Convertible frames were boxed from the factory.

Differential oil ever been changed? It seems to be forgotten sometime.

For years we ran back and forth from NJ to south FL in a '65 Vista Cruiser before I-95 was complete. Dad did his own work and was a stickler on maintenance, the car always ran flawlessly. Oh, and no AC.
