67-69 cutlass auto console question

I'm in the process of putting the console top back together on the 68 we're working on. In the assembly manual,it shows a 'plate' under the selector lens. What does this plate do? is it some kind of colored/solid plate? I do not have one that came with the console top,so I need to know what it is/does and if anybody has one for sale.

In between the chrome top plate and the body of the cosole there should be a plastic plate which has the holder for the light bulb that lights the indicator.

Yes,I have that part, the slider and the lens but it shows a plate under the lens. There's an illustration from the assembly manual that shows said plate in this link.

The plate under the lens is a diffuser. Without it, you get one bright spot directly above the bulb and the other letters are dim. The diffuser keeps all the letters at the same brightness by diffusing the light from the bulb.

There is also a filler that the shifter goes thru that slides with the shifter. ( Maybe same part referred to above) It is a filler to keep light, heat, fumes or watever inside the console and covers the slot cutout for chrome shifter handle. These plastic fillers sometimes break as they are thin on the sides.

The diffuser plate Joe mentioned will be a sky blue colored plate.

Yes,I figured that what it is and I have confirmed with another Olds buddy that it's solid steel painted blue. If it's steel, how does the light get through or does it just filter around it? It probably helps keep the heat from the bulb off the indicator lens also. The plate is tapered on the forward end and has a hole in the aft end. I can't find one repo,so I guess used will be it. Thanks guys for the help and I may be looking for a plate.

Mike

If you can make a paper pattern of the cavity I may be able to get it laser cut for you.
Or send me the part and I will get it cut for you.

OK,I found a diffuser plate and one side is painted light blue, the other side is bare. My question is,what color if any is the black plate painted in the bulb area. I have seen one painted white and was told of two others painted the light blue, which is correct? The black plate I have has no hint of either color. This is the black plastic plate that has the four holes and is held to the top plate with four nuts. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
