67 400 engine build
67 400 engine build
Winter is around the corner here in north Idaho and it's time to lift the body off the frame of my 67 442 I bought back in July. I spoke with Mondello and Engle about the camshaft yesterday and have decided to go with the JM22-25 cam.
4 speed car.
What should I use for valve springs? Do I have to worry about piston to valve clearance with the factory push rods? Any recommendations for pistons? Anything special I should have the machine shop do to the block, heads or rotating assembly while its a part?
I'm 36 years old so this is my first rodeo.
Thanks!

Your timing is right for building the engine as there are some really good pistons now available for the early 400:

Search Mondello (problems, complaints, horror stories) on this web site and google. I would NOT recommend using Mondello in Paso Robles, California. There are many bad experiences on the web to read about. The late Joe Mondello's son Bernard is not affiliated with the Paso Robles shop and is a stand up guy to work with. Since it is your first "rodeo", I wouldn't want you to get thrown right away by making the wrong choice on parts suppliers. Just be aware.
