'65 Air cleaners: Cutlass vs. 442

Is there any difference in the dimensions? I realize one's chrome and the other isn't.
Seeing as you can't really get the correct soft 442 chrome appearance right from any plating service...just wonder if starting with a cutlass air cleaner is an option.

(I think both pics were cleaned from this site!)

I don't know if they are the same, but the idea that flash chroming is not available is incorrect. Many car part restoration services don't do it, but an industrial plater can, and it will be durable.

https://www.uschrome.com/flash-chrome/ These guys seem to be able to do both hard and flash chrome. They don't do decorative chrome, but you may be able to get a flash chrome job done on the air cleaner.

That's interesting. Have you or anyone else here ever done it?
Pretty cool.
And is THAT what GM originally did? Or is it just a closer match to the original?

The snorkel is larger and longer on the 442 version.

Flash chroming is what was done to those and the SSI wheels, I believe.
