Sold my 65 Suburban because I saw this 63 Super 88 for sale and fell in love with the stance and patina. Im sure I'll get some hate for not wanting to paint her. I ended up picking it up on Friday night. Floor pans and trunk pan have been replaced, new carpet and seats have been recovered. 394 runs pretty good but the TV cable needs adjusted. She has an aftermarket carb and custom bracket so who knows if I can get it dialed. Slim Jim has a slight leak but seems to shift ok. I'll have to dig into that. She still has drum brakes up front that I would like to swap to disc with a new booster and Master cylinder. Anyone do hydroboost? Car Is on bags and will layout on the floor.
Goals
Front Disc Brakes
Overdrive trans swap
Holly sniper EFI swap
Factory air cleaner for looks.
New Headliner
Your car looks good the way it is. I especially like the combination of lowered & patina - very cool. Here is the before pic of mine (painted pics above), found on this site in an old post. It also would have looked good untouched. Cheers.

I was actually looking at a 63 green one just like this one.. nice ride.
Who is everyone using for front disc brake swaps?
I had heard scarebirds was done but I haven't tried to call them
That's so cool. I'm not a fan of the "slammed" ride height, but I guess you don't drive around with it on the ground, and lots of folks love it. Are you going to clear coat it, or leave it alone completely?

When it's aired up I have about 7" of clearance. Definitely not driving around with it slammed. Planning on a lite wet sand and coat of linseed oil or poppys patina.
Hey! Awesome idea with this thread for "darksiders"! We have unique cars that deserve some love. I have a '68 Jetstar 88 that I bought a few years back. It’s in a “needs some love” condition. But I’m slowly gathering parts to bring it back to life.
I’m glad we can share our stories and support each other! Everyone has their unique challenges, but what we do is true passion. Looking forward to seeing pictures from other "darksiders"!

Looking forward to seeing a couple of pics of yours too.
Been on the forum for a few weeks after snagging a 64 Ninety Eight Custom Sport Coupe at an auction. Been learning lots about the car. Going to make the car look like a 60's weekend-drag car. White painted steel poverty wheels with dog dish caps and fat white letter tires. The engine isn't the correct Starfire engine, but the 62 Dynamic 88 engine that's in it runs like a top. The car does have the factree 3.42 rear axle ratio, so she pulls pretty good!
I've been gathering up parts to make it happy and healthy (ie. conventional oil, zinc additive, filter, plugs, wires, coil, etc etc etc) and my 13yo son and I are looking forward to wrenching on it this winter. I'll post "after" photos when she's all done.
Supposedly ordered that way by the original owner. He was a dealership employee. It has the boxed control arms, rear sway bar, 15 inch wheels and disc brakes. Sure seems legit. No way to be certain. .
Nice! I have a 1969 with the police interceptor package. It has a code on the transmission tag that was only for that package. I don't know if 1968 had that, but if so the vin on the transmission plus the tag should confirm it. I was under the impression if someone knew what boxes to check one could be ordered that way. But I may be mistaken on that belief. John
Welcome to the "Darkside".
'64 Oldsmobiles shared most, but not all, mechanical components with 1963 Oldsmobiles in the full size cars.
The differences that I have observed are upper suspension bushings, air cleaner, heater box on A/C cars, and the voltage regulator.
Most of the body sheet metal is different, but it is rumored that '63 front fenders will fit a '64 if the die cast '64 fender extensions are used.
The windows and their trim interchange with '63 Starfires, and also '63 and '64 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Various interior items like door handles and latches, lamps, armrests, even seats (not including upholstery) will interchange with Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Buick.
Rear deck lids will also interchange between '64 and '63 full size Oldsmobiles. We had a '64 Dynamic 88 convertible that had a '63 deck lid. The chrome trim didn't quite match, but the lid itself was the same.
Excellent, just what im needing . So this car came without keys . I can get new key cylinders , no problem but the ignition switch , not so much . Anybody have some input on this ? Would a 65 , 66 work since I can find one of those. Also , ill look into those books .
I would think the ignition switches would be the same for any GM car of that era, but I could be wrong, so don't take my word as definitive. It might also be possible for a locksmith to cut a key to fit your existing ignition switch. If I recall correctly, cars from that era had the doors and ignitions keyed the same, while the trunk and glove box used a different key. I think it was sometime in the '70s that they swapped things around and keyed the doors, trunk and glove box alike, if the latter was keyed at all, leaving the ignition with a unique key.
That's what I was thinking but somehow they are different. That being said , I would think the differences would be minimal and could be adaptive . Either way , my first thought is to go see a lock Smith and see if cutting a new key is possible. Gotta start somewhere.
Ignition and doors are keyed alike on '64s.
If you pull the inside door panel, you can get in there and remove the lock cylinder.
On the side of the lock cylinder there is a 4 digit number.
This is the key number.

Hello all , im here , new to the group , seeking the wisdom of the masses . I have a 64 starfire , looking for interchange info . Anybody got any ?
Hey! Welcome! I just joined the forum last year, and have learned lots! I have a 64 Ninety Eight CSC. I have the 5 volume set of the 1964 service manuals. They aren't for sale, but if you ever need pics of the step-by-step instructions to do anything on your car, let me know.

I like to resurrect vehicles that have sat for a long time, neglected and ignored.
The first one I did when I moved into this house and built my shop was a 58 98 that my neighbor had stored inside for 20 years.
That was about ten years ago. Had to rebuild the motor, fix the trans, do all the usual brakes and such, cleaned it up, kept the original paint and upholstery
and sold it and saw it on FB a few months ago, the guy touring around Portland.
Then I fixed up a 36 chevy that was a basket case, sold it, then got my neighbors 47 Diamond T pickup, that his grandfather bought new, up and running. A 53 Ford Customline Sedan, then the 64 Dynamic 88 coupe that I found. Pulled the body, had it powdercoated, rebuilt the motor, dont remember if I did the trans or not
Then did a 62 F85 that just happens to have been the same color combination as my new project. It had a pristine interior but major engine problems, like a cotter key on top of a piston. Fixed it up sold it, then recovered a few Scouts, Jeeps and just sold my 56 Bel Air Coupe, so now onto the Starfire. Got it home today, was going to pressure wash the underside but its raining today and tomorrow so hope I can start on it the first of the week. Thanks again for the invite and thank you all for the feedback and advice on my other thread. Steve
