There were only 2,410 convertibles made in '64 so they are rather rare.
I once heard there were less than 200 still registered at this time, but can no longer find where I saw this.
The AACA estimates that less than one percent of a " typical auto's " production will survive in any condition after 25 years .
That's about 24 cars . The Starfire was not " typical " and so may have survived in somewhat greater numbers , but not much .
Rust and the failure of their " slim Jim's " claimed a lot of them .

Now, the snow falls heavily from the skies, so she sits in the garage getting some TLC. Just finished installing a retrosound stereo and new speakers.
Stoffe, looks like 1 sweet ride. We had a 66 Dynamic 88 years ago, first car we bought on time payments when we got out of the Army. We currently have a 67 Delmont 88 425 2 door hardtop. A slow work in progress. Enjoy yur car.

The wheels added to the appeal when I bought it. To me, the american racing and white lettering combo is a mild flirt to its "muscle" relatives and adds that little spice to the package.

My 69 98 LS. Bought it in 2012 from the original owners estate with only 62,000 miles. Did some minor work to it. Runs and drives great. Have all paperwork including Protect O Plate.Everything works even the clock!!!!
drjimz, that's the first time I've seen an auto- tronic eye mounted on an outside fender, instead of on top of the instrument panel. Your car looks outstanding. The "big girls" have a superb ride, like riding on a cloud.
Nice wagon. I know someone with a 'super clean '63 Fiesta. Has "Meteor" (as opposed to Fisher) body sill plates if I recall correctly.
I'm thinking that the "Meteor" sill plates would indicate a conversion to a "commercial" car (think ambulance or hearse conversion). Miller-Meteor made some on Olds chassis, but many were on a Cadillac chassis. As a commercial vehicle, most likely would have limited use, ever see a dirty hearse?
I've always loved owning underappreciated vehicles that aren't mainstream. I just hate feeling like a cookie cutter. Here's the '64 Starfire I just picked up.

Creed9312, sharp looking car, how is the interior, and driveline. What work are you going to do to it? GM used acrylic lacquer for their paint, not sure if you will be able to buff it out to get a shine. Might want to try white polishing compound, by hand, first in a spot that will not show to much. Just a thought on my part.

Interior is actually close to mint condition. My plans is to get it cleaned up and install seatbelts in the rear so my kids can enjoy the car with me and my wife. Then save money to figure out a exhaust system to open up that 394 in it, then for front disc brake conversion, then after that OD transmission conversion so we can take it on road trips. Paint job and wheels/tires are in the future plans also.
Wow! gotta love the "Big Ladies" I'm beginning to think the high end models from the big 3 may be the best buys, since most were pretty well taken care of and garaged.
This is my 1962 super 88 holiday coupe, original California car, not sure when it was brought to Michigan, but the guy I bought it from got it in 90, it’s only had 1000 miles put on it since he got it in 90.
it has sat outside for 8-10 yrs, I drove by it for 5 yrs before I stopped to see if he would sell it . Got a lot of good used or nos trim pieces with the car that need replacing, motor was locked up when I got it but trans fluid and acetone did the trick .. car has every option except air. All power windows go up and down, door panel are good shape. Seats were shot from mice

I purchased a ‘62 Starfire convertible. It is in Pennsylvania and I am in California and have yet to drive or even see it live. My parents are enjoying it though. It is a numbers matching survivor car with around 77k original miles. I know little about these cars and want to learn all I can. I bought it because I have always wanted a convertible and fell in love with the pictures I was sen(see below)t. I hope you all like answering questions. 😀

Beautiful car, GM didn't start matching numbers until 1968. People use that as a selling point on these classic cars on unsuspecting buyers.

The only numbers that " match " on these cars are the VIN number on the door post tag and the number on the frame .

I used the the term because I know it to be the original engine/trans. The car came from a family friend. I will be more careful in the future. Thanks.

interesting handle for a name. The starfire is difficult to find parts for so get the Fusick catalog, they are your best source for aftermarket parts.
Jaswest makes the replacement side panels and other hard to find pieces.
Your car looks to be in great shape, A/C, power vents, power windows and most likely other options I've missed.
This will be a fantastic cruiser on the coast.

I picked up this 70 Delta 88 Custom Holiday Coupe from a private party yesterday. It is a survivor in it's original paint. The original interior is in excellent condition. I have had several '69-'70s, but it's been many years since the last one. The '70 is a stable mate for our '54 Super 88.
