47 olds wheel lug nuts

While attempting to remove the wheels from my 47 olds, I found the passenger side lugs were fairly easy to remove. I only snapped one off. The left side or drivers side were a different story. They would not budge. I tried everything and snapped two on one wheel. After many WD40 sprays and wire brush cleanings, I noticed small marks on the corners of each nut. I realized that these marks indicated left hand threads. I had been tightening the lug nuts. When I turned the nuts the reverse way they came off as easily as the right hand side. Were all cars in those days made that way? Perhaps someone changed the lug bolts? Any ideas? Thanks

Yes the were right side right thread, left side left thread up until the early 60s' on some car makes. A change in wheel and nut design eliminated the need for left hand threads so the story goes..........Most likely more then one version of this story
