442 Shipped to Mesa Proving Grounds
My 1970 442 Vin 344870Z02643 produced at the Freemont Plant (Z) original build sheet shows that it was shipped to MESA PROVING GROUNDS MESA ARIZONA . It has bypass code 2 Wheel - Paint Code X Rally Red.
Has anyone else have a car that was shipped to Mesa Proving Grounds? I am trying to document the cars history and wondering if this was used for magazine's etc. It has every available option except the W30. Any information would be great.

Wow. That car is loaded! Note that technically, the car was CHARGED to the proving grounds. It was shipped to Big 2 Oldsmobile in Mesa. Given how it was equipped, it almost sounds like an executive car.

I would read "CHARGED TO" as "bill to the Mesa Proving Grounds vehicle test department" or whatever the more official description would be
the proving grounds probably didn't have a receiving department, so the vehicle had to be shipped to a local dealership
zone managers, etc. that were in "office buildings" - also had cars shipped to local dealerships for receipt & prep

Maybe it was pulled from the assembly line for testing before being sold. My 2012 F150 has a paper in the owners manual that stated it was pulled from final assembly to verify everything was correct and ran it through final testing before it was sold.

I can’t find a ship date…
You can always find that dates add time for delivery and add time for publication printing to match up and see if any pubs ran tests on your car.
Pubs had long lead times back then. 3 or more months I’d say?
They still had 6 weeks by the 90’s
