400 question
I have a complete engine and need a little help The block has a stamp 390925E, heads stamped C 394548, intake stamped 397357 which is a two barrel. Previous owner said it came from a 67 442 but that don't make sense with the two barrel carb. Is this the same block and heads as a 442? Thanks
The block has CAST numbers 390925E which makes it an E block Rocket 400.
The heads have a large C CAST into them as well as 394548,
Those numbers are CAST, as in raised, and are part of the mold.
Please look at the front edge of the passenger head, and this will be difficult with AC. You should see a number STAMPED (as in, with a punch, by hand) into the pad on the front (as in the vehicle's front) that should be X######Y, where X and Y are letters and ### are numbers. This will tell you the application of the engine, and its serial number.
Now, the heads could have been reversed, so also the back side of the driver's head is another place.
Turnpike cruisers had the same rocket 400 E block as the 442, but a different intake, cam, and I believe they had small valve C heads, not the 442 large valve ones. The stamped number on the head will help us there.
If you have 442 heads on there, you can replace the intake and carb and hop up the cam and make that thing all that is sex.

The Turnpike Cruiser in 67 got the large intake valves just like the 442, same pistons also. It looks like you have the 67 TC 400 with that intake but that could have been swapped back during the gas crunch. Some thought the 2BBL would save gas.
