394 rocker shaft length?

Does anyone have a set of rocker shafts for a 394 that they could measure for me. I found an NOS set but he is not sure if they are 394 or 215. I would assume the 394 shafts are longer, I just want to make sure before I spend the money on them.

Don't you have a 215 shaft you could measure? Either they're the same length and diameter or not.

Yes but if a 394 just happens to have the same length as a 215 then I will still not know for sure. This NOS setup has rockers, springs and all, they are ready to go but the rockers and pedestals do not look 215 in the picture.

Eric, if these are fully assembled with the stands, it's easy to tell. The 215 rocker stands use only one bolt per stand. The 394 rocker stands use two bolts per stand. Also, the 394 rocker arms are angled on either side of the stand. The pushrods are somewhat closer together than the valve stems.

These have cast pedestals and the originals were aluminum. Mark at D&D said he has never known of any other than aluminum even in the aftermarket world. I am not convinced that these are correct and they are not cheap. Not willing to risk it till I get more pictures and information. He has the receipt from when he got them in 1990 and has the correct GM part number for the shafts but the rockers and other parts don't have GM part numbers. The box has Mobile Parts crossed out with another name on the box that shipped these to him. I assume the other place got them from Craig and resold them. All this was 1990 so who knows?

Those are probably small block Buick shafts. I believe the Buick stands came in both aluminum and cast iron. The shafts for all SBBs are the same length (and the 215 is an SBB, after all).

Eric, if you and Joe haven't resolved it yet I've got some rocker rails I pulled from 394 heads. I might be able to get some measurements tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Those darn sure aren't for a 394.

394 rocker shaft assemblies look like this. Again, note the fact that the stands use two bolts, not one. The ones Eric is looking at are small block Buick.
