350 trans from 77-78 Firebird

Hi All,

Just want to confirm before purchasing. I found a 350 transmission locally from a 77 or 78 Firebird. I am hoping it should fit without issue (minus the downshift cable) correct?

Thanks, Joe

Yes, assuming that Firebird had a Pontiac motor and not a Chevy. This is when GM started to mix up engines in their cars.

Well the trans may have come from a 78 firebird but from what I could find it came out of a 72 Pontiac originally. Numbers on accumulator are 72/MA 147. I was hoping somebody could tell me what the plug is hanging out of the speedometer housing. I am guessing it was changed to fit the 78 firebird but I cannot find any info.

Thanks, Joe

The person also had a second trans that was supposedly rebuilt a while ago but has been sitting. I grabbed it just in case. Numbers are 70/ JR 231. I believe this one is from a 70 Buick. It does not have the wire hanging out of the housing but would probably have to be pulled apart as the shafts have some rust on them.

Joe, A week ago I would have taken you up on it. Any idea what the electrical plug is in the picture by chance?
