330 or 394

which engine do I have?
1964 Olds F85
I thought the engine was a 330, but was informed today that it is a
394.

distributor in rear
filler oil tube front on passenger side
head measures some 14-14 1/4 width
valve cover length 19 in
vin: 844A01217

appreciate getting this cleared up for me
thanks

It should be a 330. The engine stamp on the front of the block where the oil pressure sending unit is would help.

This usually works- 5 bolt holes in the valve cover = 394.... 10 bolt holes = something else

thanks
found the oil pressure idiot sending unit, but not able to get behind the block to
check the numbers, as it is too close to the firewall..
number "23" stamped on the passenger side just behind the alternator.

question: my car has an alternator, but on the dash idiot light, it reads "gen" ?????
thanks

I see in one of the posts you mentioned why your dash light says gen when you have an alternator. Im pretty sure all full sized oldsmobiles of 63+ all came stock with delcotron alternators and 12 volt coil and such, despite having a light that says gen. I think yours did too if maybe you were thinkin it might've been converted from generator or something.
