3" custom exhaust

I'm trying to get to all the rust under my Cutlass this 3" exhaust needs to come out where's the best place to cut it in case I wanted to reuse it. I'm thinking about 4" off the muffler then could get it out with one cut each. What are the benefits to a 3" exhaust as apposed to a standard 2 1/2. I know this 3" takes up a lot of space. I'm not building a racecar just a bad *** weekend driver.

If its not a race car I can't think of many benefits. Three inch exhaust always looks like it belongs on a big rig to me.

Race car or street car doesn't really matter...
What kind of power do you have?

Love the vid. Car launches HARD! I have run 2 1/2 most of my life. Always thought 3 inch was too much. My two cents. There's a joke in here somewhere.

Plus it's a real torque-killer. Stick with 2.5.

I doubt your car runs in the 11 second range with the 2 1/2 inch exhaust.I am pretty sure i got it covered all motor and i can run 11 with 3 inch.

I think you can get it off without cutting if you remove shock and drop the spring out. You should be able to lower axle enough to snake it out. I think

Thanks! I'm working on it. I need to straighten it out and drop the 1.53 60ft's down to consistent 1.48's.

Personally I never did back to back tests between when I ran 2.5" and now with the 3". I was deep in the 11's with both.
I've heard 500hp is the tipping point for moving to 3", but there's probably a lot of exceptions and factors one could argue for either.

Well my 3" is bought and paid for. All joints are welded and it looks to only be only a couple years old. Not sure about getting in out in one piece but dropping the spring idea looks to be how it was installed the rear springs appear to be new as well & that's about the only two things that aren't from 72. It looks to be galvanized metal does that have some kind of coating on it or is it just plain dirt that should steel wool up nice. Also if I can't wrestle it out whole where is the best place to cut then coupling it for reinstall ?
I'm now thinking If I can get a extra loud rumble sound with already owned custom 3" I'm keeping it why the hell not.

This a pic of the right side tail pipe can't tell if it's a coating or dirt and surface rust. I ran some 1000 grit on the one side you can see it came right up. But now I'm not sure what's on it.

Looks like a galvanized coating.I was thinking about how it was welded so could see where might be a good place to cut it for reinstall. Mine stops at the rear axle because the shops around here are unable to make a full three inch system. Claim it will crack if they do.I told them to do it and let me see if it would crack they refused.
