2014 Olds nationals
I am very much undecided about the Nationals next year. After tax it is $150 per night and there is no way I will do that. To rich for my blood. I found one place that is a long walking distance away but I could hardly understand the person on the phone. Disappointing because it is so close to me this year. If I go I will not take a car and just look around. I may just go to the Homecoming and forget about the nationals. I guess I have time to figure it out.

Couldn't you just go online and make a reservation at the hotel's website or a site like Orbitz or Travelocity? I think the last time I made a reservation at a hotel by actually calling them on the phone was about 1995.

I joined Choice Hotels dot com several years ago, and can call them wherever I am traveling in the US from my cell, give the ID code & they do everything else, best rate.. whatever room specifics ( which they keep my preferred list on file!) and then email my directions etc to my iphone. Takes minutes. Or can do the same online as jaunty mentioned and avoid the cell time. Not bragging but they got my rooms at this years Nats for $56 a night, and was only 1 mile from the site.
I sincerely hope & wish every CO member was able to go to each & every Nats, I worked the swaps and as always was afforded time to meet & greet & chat with many cool & interesting people...a big reason I enjoy going there. The people are what make the sport fun, the cars are a vehicle, no pun intended, to get us there. Its an essential part of my appreciation for the time & dedication people have in enjoying/restoring their rides.

If you use Orbitz or Travelocity you might be able to get a room at the host hotel for cheaper (probably not, but worth a shot). Hotels will not allow an organization to block out all of their rooms for an event as they have business travelers who expect to be able to get rooms and they don't want to **** those customers off (they'll start going elsewhere), so you may want to try that.

If I take a car I want to be right at the show. so my wife and I can just go back ad forth to the room as we please and not have to drive there. I will likely go by myself and just look. maybe take a load of parts. Looks like money will be tight this summer for me anyway. I may only be able to aford one show I may have to decide if it will be the nationals or the homecoming

It is unfortunate that the host hotel sold out so soon, and that the next door hotel is $30 more per night. We are hoping that with the event planning group assisting OCA there will be more hotel rooms available at better rates for 2015-on.
Meanwhile, as others suggested, search around for nearby hotels that are more reasonably priced. I have done that in the past as I don't like paying a lot for a room; I try to get a roommate that I know to split the cost when I stay at the host hotel.

I think I'll miss 2014 also. have other shows this year planned. WI one in 2015 should be good and there are plenty hotels around the 5-20 minute away range. Heck maybe I;ll rent out my old mint 1975 starcraft pop up and restored 77 dodge disco van with a fold out bed...like woodstock in my back yard man

I am a member of the Cincinnati chapter that is running this show. I am sorry to hear so many guys are overlooking this show. We know that a lot of people want to be able to walk from the hotel to the show field. the Fairfield shares the parking lot with the Holiday Inn, There are other hotels that are within less than five minute drive. this is really a nice location for a show. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask or check out www.cincyoldsclub.us

If it helps anyone, I booked my room at the Ameristay in Batavia,OH the next town to the east, looking at the rate for the secondary hotel it's $50 cheaper per night! With continental breakfast to! I think I can drive the six miles back and forth each day for a $50/night savings. My Alero should be able to get there and back 2.5 days on one gallon of gas.
My boy wants me to take the 70 Supreme but he is not paying for the gas either!
