2009 Olds Nat's

How about some of you who attended sharing your experience with us who could not. What was your overall opinion of the event? How did the judging go?? Pictures to share.

Thanx, Dave

I went twice, Thurs. and Sat., primarily for the swap meet. Finding stuff locally for my 69 442 has been tough. It was billed as the worlds biggest Oldsmobile swap meet, but I was let down at the number of vendors (approx. 40-50). That being said, I was able to buy the main items I wanted. A dash pad and all the ducting and kick panels $250 and two sets of C-casting heads for $50 per set. So, I did make out. I guess I am used to Carlisle, Canfield, and Butler when I was looking for chevy and mopar parts.

There were some nice cars there. They had a row of Hurst Olds that went from 68 up into the late 70's or early 80's. That was probably the only place you will ever see that. They also had a 69 442 that had the identical paint and interrior as listed on my cowl tag. Since the cowl tag shows brown exterrior, I thought there was no way that could look good with a white interrior. It actually was not that bad. I took a bunch of pictures and it is starting to grow on me. I don't know if it will grow enough to actually paint it that color, but that will be a couple of years away.

Hi Dave
We showed up on Monday and had a condo off site over by the golf coarse about five mins away from show area.We as a family had a great time visiting with old friends and meeting new people with oldsmobiles. The swap meet has gotten smaller over the years and I think it's because of evil-bay.The host hotel was spread out and up and down hills,on the map everything looked close but in reality you needed a good pair of walking shoes.
We enjoyed the restaurants, shops and the bars, the skeet shooting bar was the best with a view and the echo of shot guns going off.The pools both inside and out were always full of people having fun,we had a private pool at the condo so our kids enjoyed that one.
Everyone we talked to was in a pleasent mood and liked talking about their cars aswell as the other cars on the show field,we never heard a cross word about anything or another member.
I didn't take any of my cars this year but enjoyed everyone elses and my kids took lots of photos. We left on saturday around 7.30 in the evening and drove straight through till we got home at 3.30 the next morning.
Overall the event was worth the time and money, the allagany chapter did a great job,if there was a problem they solved it without it becoming known to everyone there.
You will hear about the weather not being the best but we have no control over that so rain on judging day happens (at least it wasn't hail).
We are looking forward to next year and hope to see everyone again and meet new people from that area with oldsmobiles.
Steve

The last sentence says it all. It was a good showing of Oldsmobile vendors. The Nationals and the Homecoming meets are the only ones that have anywhere near that number of vendors.

Yes, we had some rain, but it was occasional, and not that obstructive, and the cooler temps were generally appreciated.
There were a good showing of some great cars as usual, but I noticed that there was sort of an odd mix of some cars missing that you'd expect to see, and some there that you wouldn't expect to see.
But above all, meeting people, old friends and new, was the best part for my wife and I.

I didn't go to the Nats but I went to a small local Chapter show at Micke Grove Park in Lodi Ca. and it was weird. There were like 15 cars and 4 or 5 judges and they weren't very welcoming or friendly. Two of the particapants were very nice though. I drove over in my 61 but parked it near by. When I left I drove through the show and didn't get a look or a wave. I know Mopar people are a strange, but at least their friendly. I hope that group was a misrepresentation of the Oldsmobile people, otherwise I'll pass. I would imagined if i joined there national and local chapters i would have got a warmer welcome.

NAS Backyard: Sorry about your bad experience at the local event in California. Generally, any Olds event I have attended has had great examples of the cars, extremely friendly folks, etc. The Seven Springs Nationals was an exceptional location. 1st time ever at a resort location. IT WAS SPREAD OUT. Juju had fallen about 6 weeks (hairline fracture in her hip) prior to the event, and we left her wheel chair at home, she said she wouldn't need it. Hmmmmmmm. After 1st day of walking 1000 feet to have a meal, then same 1000 back to the room, she called the desk and askef if they had a wheel chair for rent. They had one, N/C, and I pushed her A LOT the rest of the event. Great cars, a little rain, continued friendships, and made many new friends there (Hello, Joe P and Muskrat, Bruce, Don). Saw Erik's LongTop, but never got to meet him. Beautiful country in PA, W VA, OH, TN, KY, etc. They have these long roads up there that seem to go UPHILL only! Must have been my imagination. 3300 mile round trip, 22 MPG in the CC. Those mountains (we don't have many of those in Texas) caused a great deal of downshifting.....excuse me.....a GREAT DEAL OF DOWNSHIFTING!
