1988 Indy Pace Car
#3
John this is the actual track pace car that has been modified by PPG in the subsequent years. The quad 4 turbo was pulled before PPG got the car. 2.8 was used in the parade cars and it was a dog.

Thanks for the feedback... Very informative point of interest... What little I do now about the Quad4 is that it was capable of more horsepower then the 2.8... Which naturally raises the question, why wasn't it used for all the 88 Pace Cars... Production cost most likely...

I don't know for sure, but I think the early iterations of the NA Quad4 were considered underpowered (particularly in torque) for the W-body Supreme. It wasn't available as an option until '90.
And since the 'parade cars' like mine were basically just production cars with some bolt ons / stickers, the Quad4 wouldn't have been available.
I remember checking out a '90 red 'vert Supreme at a dealer with the Quad4 and the salesman saying I'd be happier with the 3.1.
