1979 Hurst Olds Barn Find
Purchased a one owner 79 black-gold Hurst Olds - R code car that sat for 21 years 48,000 original miles. Runs and Drives descent considering. Interior is really really good. Outside is faded - patina and a little rough but no holes. Would clear coating it be the way to go? Just a thought

Cool car, but I'm not sure why you'd clear over faded paint...
To me, original paint is worth trying to bring back. Faded/oxidized/dried out single stage paint can be drastically improved using Meguiar's #7. Lots of info out there on it on various detailing forums. Afterward, top with a decent wax of your choice. I have always had good luck with Collinite products.
Granted, everyone has opinions, but that's the route I'd take if that were my car.
