1972 olds cutlass convertible

How do I remove my convertible top from my car. It's getting painted and my top is in great condition. I just want to slide it off. I removed the 3 bolts on both mounts and I'm thinking to muscle it off. Any opinions?

Why not just have your painter cover it?

I took one out recently even without the good top on it , it was a very very tight fit in the back. I'm not recommending you do it but if you do you better put something between the top and body to protect the top.

I would call a couple top shops and ask opinions before I did anything with it. They will be the best due to experience. Good luck with it. Haste makes waste.

Grab a chassis service manual from ebay or maybe a member here has one.
Post over on the parts wanted forum for your 72. The are an invaluable tool.

Convertible top info is in the Fisher Body Manual, not the CSM. You'll need the FBM to show you the adjustment procedure now that you've loosened those bolts.

Oops, I sit corrected. Both books are invaluable. Thanks Joe, I hate adding to
truth decay...But as we all know, $hit happens at times.
