1972 Glove Box Emblem
1972 Glove Box Emblem
I have been doing some research on my '72 Cutlass Supreme Convertible 442 Option Package. It has a 442 glove box emblem. I have read (somewhere) the original emblem should be Cutlass Supreme.
The car is mostly all original so I would like to make sure the details are correct.
Looking for the truth.

The 4-4-2 glovebox emblem was correct when the 442 was it's own model (1970-1971). 1972 your car should have had a Cutlass Supreme logo, unless of course it was a hurst olds, then i believe it would have had a HURST/OLDS sticker (not emblem)
But alot of us added the 4-4-2 glovebox emblem because it looks really cool and it bolts right on.

X2. I owned a 1972 442 in the late 1970s (350, 4bbl, single exhaust, 4spd) and one of the first things I did after I got it was run down to the dealership and buy a 1971 442 glovebox emblem to replace the Cutlass emblem used on the 72. The second thing I did was in install duals and a cutout rear bumper (which also would not have been correct on a 350 car).

I'm running a single walker exhaust on my cutlass right now, although i'd love to upgrade to ILT factory Duals.
Guess I'm lucky. My VIN shows a 350 w/ 4 bbl carb and single exhaust but the car has dual exhaust and rear bumper to match. Evidently, one of the former owners converted. I am the fourth owner.
I know the last owner overhauled the engine and installed a racing cam.
All that said, guess I'll leave the 442 emblem on the glove box.
Thanks for all the comments.

The car could be factory ordered with N10 dual exhausts on the 350 engine. They were down turned exhausts that didn't use a cutout bumper. If your car has a cutout bumper, that's an add on that one of the PO's also added. I put one on my car because I think it looks cool as heck, especially with those trumpet exhausts. I've heard more folks comment nice things about the cutout/trumpet bumper/exhaust on many of these cars. And yes, my car is also a 350/4bbl that used to be a single exhaust.

but if it's not going to be mostly a driver, the cosmetic changes you're keeping on the car don't matter. When you go to a car show, just be prepared for all the critics telling you what's right and wrong....and just smile and nod......then walk away before you punch them...

Tony - check out the profile picture - it already has most of that. If it's a real factory 442 from 72 it will already have those features. W29 was offered on CS vert but not CS Holiday.
