1972 A body differences?

1. Why did the Holiday Coupes have the reflectors on the door panel, but the Supremes didn't?

2. What's up with the double buckle seat belts?

The double belt buckles are one for lap belt and one for shoulder belt. It was the start of the shoulder belts. My 68 was set up that way. Not sure when it started or when it went to one belt for both.

Ahhh...so I see. The pictures I used for reference are from a car with a build date of 8/71, and it's a '72 model. My '72 Supreme has a build date of 6/72, and it has the shoulder belts with just one buckle, so that would make sense.

My '67 442 came factory equipped with optional shoulder belts; I have never seen them on a '66.

Because the Cutlass S interior and the Supreme interior were different upholstery patterns.

66 cars could have shoulder belts, the body needed the mounts. 67 cars all had the mounts, but the belts were still optional. Jan 1 1968, federal requirements for all hard roofed passenger cars were to have front outboard seat shoulder belts.

66-67, the buckle was on the shoulder strap and docked on these things that looked like a seatbelt tab mounted to the quarter panel trim. 68-71 (I believe), they were a smaller buckle on the bottom strap, and were that way to keep the belts straight. 72 went to the keyhole style with one buckle, one belt with the keyhole tab, and the shoulder belt had the keyhole pin to plug in. I don't know when, or why, the one buckle started, whether it was 72 model year or Jan 1 72 regulation.

Convertibles and trucks did not get shoulder belt legislation until later.

Guys...please keep this thread on point. I was asking about '72s, not 67s. Thanks.

My 1972 hard top coupe W29 442 with S interior does not have the reflectors or double lap belts. The shoulder belt has the key hole style attachment. A Lansing built car.

Shoulder belts started in 66/67, the evolution is important to your question, even if you yourself don't realize it.

The standard belts used the two buckle system. The optional deluxe belts used the **** on the shoulder belt that fit into the lap belt buckle. Standard belts were only offered in black, no matter what the interior color was. Deluxe belts were color-matched to the interior.

Understood, but I was only asking why the '72s were different.
