1972 442 Documentation

I just recently purchased a 1974 Corvette, which came from the original owner. He traded in a 1972 442 as shown on the Bill of sale, for the car.

If the car still exists you can now document that it was born a W-29 car with the original owner.

Cool document, but there is a reasonable doubt, being that it is not a factory document. Nonetheless it is about a rare U code either way. My Grandfather special ordered my '72 Cutlass Supreme Hardtop Coupe and being the factory wouldn't put the W29 package on it, he had arranged with the dealership to do the "appearance" part (since he could get the FE2 handling part) done the same year.

My point is that a dealer could have put the emblems and all on and the salesman that took the trade in, may not have known any different. Just saying, but still a cool document. Thanks for sharing and hopefully the car is still in circulation.

 

The Original owner who ordered the 442 - U-code is alive and well. He ordered the '72 and traded it back to the same dealer in 1974 on the Corvette.

All I do know with 100% certainty is that I would be very happy to have this info, if it were my car.

I agree it's a valued document for both cars. Not every day someone trades in a factory 455 442 like that. I can't help but wonder what else that 442 had for options. I noted by the VIN that it's a very early production car, likely built in September of 1971. I suspect it was a special order car, since the Cutlass S (model 87) came standard with an L32 350 2bbl.

Chances are the car no longer exists as is the case with many of the nice ones that rolled off the line.
