One of ten convertibles with a/c, but I didn't think the rear wing was available on the converts? I noticed there is no mention of a broadcast card with this one. Very nice looking though in Viking Blue. Looks like something is a little off on the drivers side stripe where the W-30 emblem is. Looks crooked, or the stripe angled or something.

Nice, but yes... stripes are way off... front bumper is bent... grille openings are not quite right. The angle of the pics makes it look worse than is probably is.

Coming from a guy who has never been able to cull any kind of love or desire for convertibles, that car is gorgeous and I'd drive the living hell out of it.

Wing was only available on the Coupes from the factory, could be a dealer installed item but probably a much later addition. Kind of makes you wonder what else is added after the fact.... Hmmmmmm.

Yes there were only 110 W30 converts and the seller *could* further say one of 78 with an automatic. But the question still is 1 of 10 what?

To me, it reads 1 of 10 of the 110 W30 convertibles that have AC.
I can't confirm that with my production records because it is a combination of options. It is certainly plausible that 10% of them had AC. And it it is also possible that the "1 of 10" was obtained from Oldsmobile many years ago when such records are available. There are scattered instances of of these types of "records" that were the result of someone inquiring Olds years ago, and Helen Early looking up and providing some of these stats in a letter to the inquirer.
But now, it is actually a pretty simple thing when it comes to "unusual" claims like this: Show me the proof. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".

In this case, though, the claim is far from unrealistic.

There have been other claims of only 10 AC equipped 71
W30 convertibles. I have info on 78 of the 110 converts that I have accumulated in person and personal research over 30 years. Currently my info shows 16-18 cars got AC on a W30ragtop in 1971.
The steering wheel and gauges look like repos as well. Also too many 71 are getting restored with the all chrome SSI wheels. Get a vin number and data tag, I can tell you more.

I Find it interesting that almost a year has passed since car #1 first appeared, and here is a 2nd near twin to it, touting a similar pedigree. I am no expert, beautiful car to be sure, either car is, but both stating they are each 1 of 10 seems more than a coincidence. And note the fender stripes, while better on my posted example, still bear some of that turned up hint as last years did. This car does state as having broadcast sheet and plethora of documentation. So I can only say nice car, and to the owner Best of Luck.

been about 15 yrs since i had my 70 w-31,but i don't remember my brake lines off the master cylinder going around the back and above the master cylinder.they gotta be hell to bleed

Love the Viking Blue with Black Interior, but if this is the same car that I am thinking of, it was originally sold here in Texas as Sienna Brown (code 67) or Sable Brown (code 68)

I believe he mistook the MC bale for a brake line. The 2 brake lines I see look to be properly routed and the MC looks to have the proper bleeders on it too. I agree the hood has the same hideous deformity the one that started this thread has.

Pic in post 7 & pic in post 21 are different cars (or severely altered) washer bottle on opposite sides, (7 appears correct on a 455 w/ OAI & AC), and the foam OAI gasket is different, and the top rad hose is different....

These are two different auctions 1 year apart. Two different blue cars. I still like the one with the black interior which is coming up in a couple of weeks.

Speaking of alternators, what is with that wiring harness routing on the upper alternator bracket? Looks like two of the clips where there is normally one and don't the AC cars normally have that coming from the Fenderwell forward of the horn relay? Is this something unique to 71's?

Close but not the same car. The sable brown in the picture above was only recently offered for sale (~2009 -2011) somewhere up north. The auction car with the black stripes sold new in Texas. I met the prior owner loooong time ago and he sold it in the late 1980's before it changed color to blue. Back then I didn't know the difference between Sable Brown & Sienna.

Forgive the tangent, but what do you know about the Sable one pictured? I'm trying to trace its lineage, even on this site. I may know it from the 1980s. You seem to be somewhat familiar with its appearance on this site, but I am not.

That was changed in 71. 70 was the last year to go across from the inner fender.

I also grabbed that picture when the Sable Brown car was being discussed on here or ROP several years back. I want to say that Brian Trick was looking at it, putting it in NW PA or SE NY or thereabouts. I'll check the download date on my pic.

I think that car was for sale on 442.com a few years ago. I have a underhood picture showing nonA/C, non power disc which aligns with a 4 speed car. Also going from memory this car has a 3 core radiator with a fan shroud. I can post the pictures when I am at my home computer if anyone wants to see them.

The upstate NY car was bought by a fellow from Vanvouver who subsequently sold it to a person in Northern Bc who is restoring it.
The Sable brown with gold stripes remains elusive.
