1971 Cutlass hoods
#2
I believe that is what you got if you ordered a 442. A cutlass hood would not have those.
FYI if you ordered a 442 with w30 option then you got the infamous OAI hood. There is a diff between 442 hood and W30 hood.

Terminology is key...referring to a Cutlass hood and 442 hood is very ambiguous.
The OAI hood isn't the default 442 hood.
My '71 Cutlass S survivor has the hood with the chrome plates
The Cutlass Supreme would not have the chrome plates
Add in the different hoods for cars with AC
The F85s had the non-chrome plate hood too, I believe

The first thing you need to understand is that for the 1971 model year, the F85 two door models were rebadged as "Cutlass" (sans the "S") models. Same low-rent F85 standard equipment, just "nameplate inflation" that was going on at the time. That Cutlass model even carried the same 31xx/32xx style number as the F85 had previously. (As an aside, this also happened in the B-body lineup a couple of years before, where the former low-end B-body model, the Delmont, was dropped and the Delta was dropped down one notch, so the three tier model lineup became the Delta 88, Delta Custom, and the new top-line Delta 88 Royale) The hood with the chrome louvers was standard equipment on the 442 and 2dr Cutlass S models. It was optionally available on the Cutlass hardtop under RPO Y75 Exterior Sport Equipment. And once again, the W25 O.A.I. hood was NOT the "442 hood", despite the fact that you can't find a 442 today that doesn't have one. When these cars were new, the W25 hood was extremely rare to see on the street.

I've always referred to the fiberglass hood as the W-25 hood. W-25 OAI package was included in the W-30 package, so it's not really a "W-30 hood" either, technically speaking. It could be purchased separately on Cutlass S with 350 or 442 only in 1971, I think. Same with the rear deck spoilers on hardtop Cutlass S and 442. Just because it's more popular today than it was back then, I don't poo poo anyone putting a W-25 hood on their car. Although I would expect them to carry through and install the air cleaner components to make the scoops functional, at least, if they're going that far.
