1970 w30 4 speed proving its real

Hi I have a 1970 w30 4 speed hdtp was raced hard early in its life it is a real 442
has correct but not original 4 speed original f heads that were modified to adjustable valves
not sure if I like that or not correct but not original block original air cleaner hood and red wheel wells
would like to prove its original or not so if I did sell it 1 day would like to advertise it properly
is there anyone out there to document it
i would like to do that before I take it apart for repaint and disturb it more then it is
I did forget to mention on the 70 w30 proving its real
does have the Olds original aluminum intake with
a correct but not original quadrajet

Hi I wanted to add and reword the way I put the add was sorry didn't mean it that way it sounded
Hood, air cleaner , red wheel wells, F heads, aluminum intake and fenders are all original to the car
just block, carb, and trans are not original but correct sorry I wasn't clear
Thank you

If the VIN starts with 344 then it proves its a 442. The W30 part is a lot harder unless you have original paper work from purchase or what they call a broadcast card which can be found inside the car sometimes under back seat or behind bucket seat backs. The W30 parts can and are often added to cars.

Definitely pull the seats apart, look for that broadcast card, I found one under the old carpet matting on mine as well but it was unreadable..anything like the protecto plate if by the long shot its still stuck in old papers in the glovebox. I found one stuffed inside a bunch of old papers on a 67 corvette once by chance.. the owner simply never looked..the only way to undoubtedly prove is with POP card, broadcast card and or original bill of sale.. post some good pics on here, several true experts on the site..I am certainly not one of them.

It's hard to command real W-30 money when the powertrain is not original. A 442 was a model that year, so the car body is truly a 442, with all the trim and looks it implies. Seems like most of the W-30 stuff is not original. A broadcast card is nice, and will help, but with that much not original, it won't add much. I'd look for it when you can, but be happy either way.

Post some pics if you can, be interesting..one never knows if it was an original as you say raced and many parts changed out over the years etc. Be fun to see it, then maybe the real experts on here can help you get a better idea what the car was born with despite missing parts. At this point nobody can really say one way or the other.

When you do "take it apart for repaint and disturb it more then it is" i would take pictures of the original fenders with the w30 emblems on and then the clean holes where the w30 emblem tabs go in with the emblems off .
These holes are punched and not drilled from the factory, Also take pics of the fenders with the worn dirty red inners attached.. You are sure to bust off a nut plate or two if not careful. Best to hold it from the back end with vise grips when backing off the bolts.

I agree on taking as many "before" pictures as you can. Hell we all want to see it in whatever state it is.

What are “adjustable valves”?

The F heads are a step in the right direction…but won’t prove the cars provenance.

I will add that allthese posts are well meaning and helpful, but i dont think anyone of us will shell out w30 money for a car that might be a w30 and doesnt have theoriginal engine, trans, red fender wells etc.

like Koda said be Happy either way.

I'd try to research the previous owners/racers to see if they can add any information.

Excellent advice, may find the old racers, articles and/or pictures to get some history on the car. Besides its like hunting, you get to chase down owners and info. That will help you get some solid info on the car..all the rest is pure speculation at this point.. either way enjoy the hell out of the car.
