1970 radiator

still looking for a correct 4 core radiator for my 70 442 auto restoration project......no luck. anyway need to know if side tanks are the same for 2, 3, 4, core olds A body cars for 1970. i know i need the flat top 70 only style but thats about all i know so far. what i am getting at is can i take a 70 two core rad to my rad shop and have him recore it as a 4 core rad? i really do not want to just throw a later 71/72 {slant cap top} radiator in at this point just because they are easy to find. school me up boys!

thanks charlie,,,

some of those tanks are the same but the stamped code is different. IF & CI are the code stamped into the side tanks for a 1970 4-core radiator. I agree the easiest and cheapest way is to have the radiator shop rebuild one that fits with the correct filler neck angle.

You'll need the large 4 row type tanks for both sides. You can't use tanks made for 2 or 3 row radiators (although some 3 row radiators utilize a 4 row end tank on one side).

I believe the D side tank is repro'd in a 4 row size....check some Chevy places. Can't comment on quality, how tall it is, fit, markings, etc.

thanks Patton for the clarification. I have a few tanks from an 88 that seem to be the same size but different codes. Also the top rail is different length. I got a 4 core from a B-body and thought it would be a no brainer to convert to an A-body size and from what I'm told that's not necessarily true. I think the radiator place just doesn't want to take the chance of making it the wrong size.
