1970 Cutlass SX

Is there any specific parts to a 1970 Cutlass SX. Picking up one as a package deal with a 1970 442.

The SX is a 442 in disguise, y-79 package included 455 and is a rare car.

Car is in pretty rough shape. Driver side quarter panel has been cut off alone with part of the rear package tray. not sure if any of the sheet metal is any good. I know the transmission is gone, but still has 455 E-head motor and rear end. Was wondering if the grills was specific to the SX or any other parts like vinyl top trim

Just to be clear, the SX package came with the 320 HP motor. The SX W-32 upgraded this to the 365 HP motor that was the base engine in the 442 that year. Yes, either version got the FE2 suspension and the cutout back bumper.

The Grills are the same as a Cutlass Supreme.

The SX is cool to Olds guys, but is meh to everyone else. Like Joe said, it took an additional option to make it par with a standard 442. However, if you like the formal roofline, like I do, it's a neat car, but is basically a pepped up Cutlass Supreme.

I consider them the equivalent of the Monte Carlo SS. They will never make 442 money on restoration, but they're worth saving if the original powertrain is there.

Try to get or find documentation if possible from the owner or in the car. Post Vin and Fisher tag numbers here. Terry keeps tabs on these as well as V codes. (vette442 on this site, or highoctaneauto.com ('72 V Code Registry)
sx455.com)

FE2 suspension was optional on any of the three versions, not part of the Y-79 package. The SX also came with the 365hp L-31 4 barrel later in the model year, replacing the W-32/OG TH-400.

Yes, I do. By the way, the V Code site is down right now for a significant revamp, if anyone is looking for it...

Slight clarification, the L31 replaced the L33 2bbl version. Both the L31 and the W32 were available for the rest of the model year, per Olds bulletin, dated Feb 24/70.
Sorry its sideways and not too clear.

The rear is an O-Type and most likely 2.56:1 ratio as that was the standard no-cost ratio. Other ratios were optional at an additional cost, as was the Anti Spin diff, and most cars didn't get them.

My 70 Cutlass SX W-32

This was my 70 Cutlass SX W-32 I sold it years ago to a mother in Fl. for her son. I got $20K for it and was all original except paint, trans. rest was all stock. Everybody said I would never get what I was asking for but I did.
