1970 bucket seat button replacement

Anyone know if the buttons that are on the 1970 bucket and rear seats are available to purchase? My front seat is in beautiful shape but the external buttons on 2 of them are missing. In hate to have to replace the seat covers for a couple buttons..

An upholstery shop can make you buttons, that way you can have them match the color. Originally, I was going to have the guy who recovered my seats and door panels for the vista add buttons. He was going to make them from the same vinyl yardage he made the covers from. In the end, I decided to leave the buttons off.

I learned during COVID that buttons are a whole world unto themselves with sizes, shapes and so on with great variety.

I spent a day making 100 or so #30 leather topped buttons for my 98 and still have at least 40 black ones for eventual swap in when the ones in the car wear out or snap off. My upholstery guy lent me his button die since it was better for me to spend a bunch of hours making buttons than paying him to do it.

My first move would be to contact the repro mfr’s and see if they’d sell you like 40 or 50 of them. The reason for the large count is you’ll want them to all match. You’d do well to pull one or 2 of the buttons that are in there to see if they’re “pin back” or whatever the other choice is.

Also if your seat covers make the buttons sit proud of the vinyl, they will continue to break off. You will need replacements along the way like oil changes. Hopefully less frequently.

Those seat buttons look like driver’s side, the exact ones you hit every time you drive the car. You could reupholster the seat and have enough surround vinyl to get the buttons to sit deeper or lower, or just get used to replacing buttons.

Short run, get in & out of the car with care. Long run, get the parts, and learn how to replace them on a Saturday.

Best I’ve got
cf

When you get them, tell us if the size matches OEM. I had problems getting the correct size.

I called Legendary and told them the buttons they sent are rounded, not flat like originals and larger than the originals.. She told me thats what they use, no other option.I thought that a bit odd as they claim to be the best exact replica interior on the market.

Hey Andy,

I'm pretty sure I saved some OEM gold buttons from a '70 SX I used to own. They were from a back seat I had recovered. Unfortunately, I'm out of town right now but hopeful to be home at week's end.
