1970 442 W-30 with all documentation,not mine

I hate to do this ,but I'm confused. I went on E-Bay September 11 (yesterday) and saw a 1970 W-30 442 Holiday Coupe, factory 4 speed, in sunflower yellow with white interior. Buy it now price $125K. The seller purports to be one of only a few owners, and has all the documentation available. I am concerned because of the "W-30" that was to be on Ebay September 11,2016, but that car is orange and so far has not appeared on Ebay, not withstanding the sellers claim to advertise it on Ebay, coincidently September 11, 2016. Is this the same car wiih a color change? Does anyone know anything about the Sunflower Yellow W-30 coupe, and whether this is the real deal? The car looks beautiful, although I realize I'm being subjective. THE EBAY ITEM NUMBER IS 172329379496. I'm sorry, but I have seen too many imposters. As always, I will appreciate your help. Thank you

SORRY THE ITEM NUMBER IS 172329379496

If you are speaking about me and the W-30 that I have, yes it has gone to eBay. I did see that one for $125k. It isn't the first time they had it on there. Do you need a link to the car I have for sale?

If you go to this page, it should be the third one down the list. Please let me know if it isn't showing up for you. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Oldsmobile/6...ction=1&_sop=3

1970 442 W-30 for sale on Ebay. Car is not my car

I need help on a 1970 442 "W-30" Holiday Coupe currently on EBAY item number 172329379496. The car is very clean, Sebring Yellow,4 speed factory car. I have seen so many fraudulently advertised W-30'S I am concerned that I may end up with one! The seller purports to have all the documentation, including the build sheet, protect-o-plate, and is an all matching numbers car. Everything! The engine has never been out of the car. The seller is the third owner. the original owner traded the car in after two years and the second buyer had the car through 2011. The car sat in the garage for twenty-two years after the second owner died, and the second owners son decided to sell the car to the current owner, and seller, of five years. THE EBAY ITEM NUMBER IS 172329379496. The seller has all the documentation, but with the incidence of fraudulent documents, I am concerned. Any help will be appreciated. Assuming the car is a W-30 he seller is asking $125,000.00. Is that what a decent shape W-30 should go for with heavy documentation. The car is not heavily optioned aside from the paint, AM radio, and Super Stock wheels. No power steering, power brakes, no ac , which supports the car being a W-30. Any help will be appreciated on the authenticity as well as the price. Thank you, hg EBAY ITEM 172329379496.

I have asked for advice from our members and I haven't received a single response. The car on Ebay is heavily documented but with the incidence of fraudulent documents, I'm concerned. Can anyone help me by looking at EBAY ITEM NUMBER 172329979496.The car has no options except the W-30 Package, Sebring Yellow paint, AM radio, and Super Stock wheels. The car has no power brakes, nor power steering which leads me to believe the car could be a W-30. The seller is asking $125,000.00. Is that a reasonable price for a car in very good condition with all components properly dated. If you know anything about this car, I will appreciate your help. Thank you,hg

For that much money one would need to have the car documented by an outside party or you look yourself if you know what you are looking for. For one, he said it is all original interior but the package tray has been replaced. It has the speaker cuts on the driver side and the original was not that way. The package tray is not a big deal but it is something that is not true in the listing.

If you want an automatic W-30 I can sell you mine for much less

I would agree with Eric! Go check it out for yourself! The broadcast card shows W30. The digits are semi hard to read on the numbers, but it looks to match by the end digits.

I'd like to know how you think no power steering supports it being a W-30. Power steering was available, power brakes were not available with the 4 speed due to not enough vacuum available to power them.

I'm not an expert, but I REALLY encourage if you are going to consider spending this kind of money on a car, PLEASE reach out to someone who knows these cars and can give you guidance.

The few pictures they have on there is not enough to show you what you need. Ebay only lets you do 24 pictures maximum using their picture hosting, but it doesn't mean they don't have more to email you. Request more pictures. Tons of them. Also a video or two.

Thanks Brian.

They way I look at it is everyone should put the absolute best effort into these listings. No excuses - pictures and video.

That way there are no surprises, the buyer from possibly half way across the world knows what they are getting, and everyone gets to see the car as if it was in person.

$125k car??? You had better go outside eBay's picture hosting because you'll just have potential buyers with unanswered questions and many of them just assume what the answer is and move on. Even Hemmings allows up to 35 pics and that really isn't enough on one of these cars.

I'm sure there is, especially in the cases of a seller trying to hide something.

He says in the ad that it had one repaint in the 80's with the original stripes?

Beware due to the trends these cars are taking.

There may be W30 cars worth $125k, buy there are few buyers at that price.

For that kind of money (or even a lot less) I would want to take a close look at the documents. If the Broadcast Cards look legit and match the Fisher Body number on the cowl tag, and if enough of the dealer documents look legit and include both the VIN and the W-30 option, then I would tend to believe the car is legit. Of course, inspecting the car, too, would sure be nice -- which is why an internet auction is probably not the way I'd ever spend that kind of cash. Your mileage may vary.

For whatever this is worth for everyone here I know Randy well and have seen this car, it is correct in every way while I did now verify each part the documentation is legit as is the car.

I do not believe the package tray has been replaced either like Eric mentioned in another post I believe the insulation has loosened up from the backing and fallen out where the rear defroster would be on the package shelf.

Survivor cars this nice as very hard to come by, while the price is at the top end if it sells someone will have a great car.

It does show U80 on the broadcast card, which would be the rear speaker, but it would have to have either the AM-FM radio or the 8 track for that. So either the 8 track is missing or the AM-FM radio is, right?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Possibly you could get the rear speaker with the AM only. I bet that didn't happen often. You'll have to wait for someone more familiar to come along and comment.

Maybe there is something I don't know about? I do not believe they ever had a package tray from the factory with the speaker cuts on both sides. This package tray clearly has speaker cuts on the driver side. Even in the trunk floor picture you can see the sun light shining through the little circle holes in the tray to the floor. Those little round openings were only on the passenger side. If I am wrong on this please let me know. I have seen many original trays and none have this on the driver side. I had to have one custom made for my W-30 to get it only on the passenger side. All the repops have it on both sides. (Attached a picture of the "cuts" I am talking about that should only be on the passenger side)

I am not saying the car is not what they claim but that just stuck out to me.

AM radio's came with a rear speaker wire attachment. A single speaker under the dash was standard. The single speaker AM would have a "U" shaped connector that would plug into the fader side to operate the radio. If you ordered a vehicle with a rear speaker they would replace the "U" shaped adapter with the 3 prong fader control. As Eric mentioned the rear speaker was on the passenger side, the rear driver side was reserved for the rear defogger blower fan.

On a 1970 car, the post above is 100% correct.

As RocketDevo and My442 said, option U80 was available with the AM radio. My own W-30 came that way. And seeing as how only about 15% of 1970 442s came with 8-track and about 15% came with AM/FM radio, it's safe to say that a fair number of the U80 car had only AM radio.

Back to the subject yellow W-30: It's a beautiful car, and I'm glad to hear Fred vouch for it. That says a lot. I remember a survivor that was auctioned on eBay several years ago. The seller knew that a W-30 was special, but he really didn't know what he had in terms of it being a survivor. It sold for more than most people expected.

I make this post not wanting to discredit this car in any way. I just want to show details about an original package tray. Here is the original tray from my W-30. Above the defogger area should have two places that are pre punched for the defogger option. If it had the option that is where it would be cut out. The car on ebay has the speaker cuts in it. Please let me know if there is something I do not know about.

I know the seller well, and when he says something about his cars you can believe it to be true. Randy has owned many of these cars over the years, and is extremely knowledgeable as far as what is original/correct, and what isn't. I have seen this car in person, and ridden in it. It is a phenomenal survivor. Greg

Your car is much nicer than the yellow one on ebay, IMO.
